Thanks. Will probably go with the edge option. Interesting comment above about worrying about wind. I don't think of these as being movable upside-down! tx
My ~72 fish is going to be stored outside in northern MA, off trailer this year. I'm wondering if a reasonable approach would be to put it deck-down on a few old tires. Would that be preferable to being on-edge for the winter up against a building? Or, if on edge, would a tire be a reasonable...
Hi all. I finally replaced a VERY old sail which is blown out and faded, but otherwise in great shape. Maybe it's worth a few bucks, but is there a good use for an old sail I should know about before tossing it out? I'm thinking about parachute material and daycare facilities, but you get the...
Hi all. I'm finally updating the sail after, ummmmmm, a bunch of years (50?) and the after-market sail won't have the Sunfish logo. I searched and didn't find anything here, but has anyone found a source for a decal or something that can be attached to the sail? I'm NOT looking for the decals...
Thank you. That's exactly what I'm doing. Ordered the FRP blade and a new sail (why not after 45 years) and a few other things from Intensity. I'll post repair photos sometime this winter when we get around to doing it, perhaps along the lines of what L&VW suggested.
Thanks to all for helping...
LOL - Guilty as charged. The rudder was left on the boat in the upright position, tied to the wrapped rigging so it couldn't swing. It was in Barnstable (cape cod) Bay and tied to an on-shore anchor, but the aft anchor was a cinder block with what I thought was plenty of line. I hadn't realized...
Thanks. This boat will never be raced again, lol. Definitely not competitive. Still sailing the original sail, but that's going to be upgraded shortly.
My '76 rudder split at the spring pin line. This was my dad's boat, and I was surprised to see a pin in the blade (see 2nd photo), not remembering a repair being done on the boat. He only owned it for 6 years before he passed away, so it's been there since at least 1982. Is the pin part of the...
I'm not quite picturing what you're recommending here, but I do like the caution on the block banging up the deck. So you're putting a short length of cable at the end of the mainsheet and attaching that to the bridle - how? Probably a dumb question, but just to make sure... tx!
Yes, thanks. I had a bridle mount rip out of the boat once in a high wind situation. I installed two 6" ports and put in new blocks under the deck when installing the new hardware, so I'm covered on that front, lol.
Thanks, but wouldn't the bare line/sheet just get destroyed running back and forth without a block? Or if I used some other line to bridge the bridle to the mainsheet clip? I did just discover there is a swivel boom block that's available that I could clip the finished mainsheet end to. Maybe...
Hi. I have a 1976 sunfish with the 3 loop bridle. The mainsheet has the brass clip at the end for the center loop. I'm interested in replacing the 3-loop with a 2-loop. What would you recommend I do to then attach the old sheet to a block on the bridle? Is there a preferred way to do this? Thank...
