I do not think the piece of channel is solid enough to be welded. For a budget repair I would overlay the end channel with a piece of larger channel and extend to cover the frame rail and drill and thru bolt . Probably a 12"- 18" piece would be long enough. That should be enough to keep the...
Short answer, yes. I have hauled Sunfish and Laser's in the back of my trucks (short bed Ford and Ram) with the use of a tailgate extender. The only problem I can see trying to do this with an FJ is the weight issue. Sunfish and Laser's are around 125 - 130 lbs. hull weight but if I remember...
U.S. Composits has on line ordering for retail consumers and are less expensive than any other source we researched. Good quality products and quick shipping. They carry everything you need to make fiberglass repairs. Good luck!
Look at the transom on the upper righthand side and there should be a serial number engraved into the hull. The last two numbers will indicate year model.
I agree with Weston, I have not seen any method to install a hiking strap without cutting in an inspection port in the front wall of the cockpit to install a good size backing plate. The fiberglass on the front wall is only about 1/8" thick and will flex with minimal pressure and won't...
There are several boat covers on Amazon for $40 - $60 range that look like they would work. I had a 420 that I tarped with bungee straps that lasted several years.
Be very careful buying any boat without a clear title. Do your homework with your states dept. of licensing to what is needed to get a clear title before buying. The Catalina 25 is a solid boat and fairly forgiving but the sales price indicates there may be several major issues / expenses...
The Sunfish built from 1971 - 1975 (during the introduction of the cubby space) seem to have a lot of problems with cracked gelcoat and fiberglass in the cockpit area. I would avoid those year models unless the boat is just exceptional.
With all things being equal, the white boat with the blue stripe looks the best, however you would need to determine the weight, or you might be installing inspection ports yourself. The other components are just as important as the hull. Having straight / non corroded spars is a major deal as...
From the pictures, given the size do of the repairs, I would go and ahead and lay down another layer (or two) of fiberglass. It certainly isn't going to hurt anything but should help reinforce those areas which are most likely to see some more abuse.
After removing the spars and padding off the deck off our 95 , and washing down the deck we discovered gelcoat blisters around the mast step (where the front spar pad was located) and inside the cockpit. Are these serious enough to warrant grinding out, filling and touching up with gelcoat or...
Thanks for the info Riv. After doing the research on this boat we made a decision to pass on the Laser II. The lack of parts and the probability of some major repairs was a real negative. We did find a good deal on a 1995 standard Laser the following week and picked it up last weekend. We...
