If you're going to paint the boat the entire thing will need to be lightly sanded to get the paint to adhere. 150 or 220 grit works the best. Next, you will have to wipe it down with acetone or a fiberglass cleaner such as the interlux fiberglass prep solvent. After that you are ready to prime...
I'm in my high school jazz band and I just tried this spray that deodorizes instrument cases in my blade bag and it took that funky musty smell right out. Check it out.

My leeward mark roundings really suck an I keep getting boats sneaking inside of me because I can not head up soon enough. I am getting all caught up in the gybe and getting the sail tuned back. Any tips, do I need to gybe earlier or is there a good procedure?
I think your alright. If you really want to go all out lightly sand the marine-tex and put one or two layers of glass around the step. The marine-tex is really great stuff. I use it all over my laser.
When I tack my dagger board comes up about five inches and when I go downwind my daggerboard won't stay up. I have the standard bungee system that runs through the bow fitting. Is this normal for a laser or am I doing something terribly wrong?
Next week I am entering my first major laser regatta and it will be the first time I have sailed a laser in a formal regatta. I have a decent understanding of tactics and dinghy racing as I race J/105s J/80s and 420s. Is there any advice you guys can give me that will really give me an edge in...
I went to practice today and found a nasty hole that was put in my deck in the area behind the traveler. The fiberglass is depressed and cracked all the way through in about 50% of the dent, put the other half is still hanging on. I would rather not have to cut an inspection port and would like...
If you want to clean that tan stain off your boat use Y-10 gel. I had the same problem and now my hull looks brand new. I fresh coat of cleaner wax will do the hull good as well.
I have a small "pelican" waterproof case that I tie to the back end of my hiking strap. Very effective and inexpensive. If you want to look at the case just go to pelican.com and find the right size case.
If you want to sail a laser check out the rooster 8.1 rig. It's made for a laser hull but for big dudes. Here's a link, its not too expensive. Depending on where you sail you may be able to eek out a full rig if the air is normally pretty stiff...
check out this diagram to find where to cut. I would cut on the side of the mast, not in the line between the mast and the daggerboard, that is where most of the rigging goes. http://teamvanguard.com/2005/base/content.asp?section=boats&dir=core&page=boats_parts&boatid=13
