Hello, I just purchased a ‘79 Custom Edition Sunfish & am looking for recommendations how to match gelcoat when filling some holes & gouges.
I usually work with MarineTex. I can’t decide if the off white hull was created with a slight brownish or yellow tint, any thoughts??
Thank you!
Hello, I just purchased a ‘79 Custom Edition Sunfish that came with these extra parts & was wondering if anyone knew what kind of hardwood at they go to?
Thanks!
Alan, I’ve had this same concern also. Certainly galvanic corrosion is something to be concerned with but after owning & racing over a dozen sunfish over 45 years I really believe the factory spars use SS rivets on the eye straps when mounting mainsheet blocks to boom. When replacing a block on...
Sounds like you have covered a lot of good skills for racing. Only thing I’d say is in lighter air, have your body weight as far forward as possible & heal to weather as much as you’re comfortable with, also use a masthead fly like audio tape or gaff whiskers to keep sail square to the wind...
Yes, same here as far as most of the rudders & tillers on my 3 sunfish just need maybe light sanding & a fresh coat.
I’m tempted to use a water base UV polyurethane because of easy cleanup. Do you think the water base finish would adhere to the original finishes ( I’m assuming they were...
Hello all,
I’m refinishing my tiller & rudder & have always used Captains varnish in the past.
I was curious if there are any of the newer finishes that might hold up better or is varnish still the way to go?
Thanks!
Tom
Ok, I’m sold on the fact that you want to point higher. The problem I keep envisioning with a flat sail is that while it “looks like” you are pointing higher, the side slippage from a small foil with not enough boat boat speed will be detrimental to your windward progress (VMG).
A Sunfish is...
I agree with Beldar, I think it would be pretty hard to improve on a sail shape that has been proving itself for quite a long time. It’s really all about getting the best VMG to the weather mark ( in your case, home)!
Wow, the NACA 0009 is a good looking foil,
This is very exciting for me! How could I get it sized to the 9.5” chord needed with the Sunfish board?
Thank you So much!!
Tom
