I'm curious if anyone who has opened up their boat for repairs, has reglassed the hole instead of installing a port? If you cut the hole with a good hole saw, it seems like it would be a fairly easy reclosure.
We were in the Apostle Islands, sailing from Outer Island to Sand Bay. Very little wind with a major storm predicted. We were ready to beach on one of the islands along the way
This was the next year (2021). Matt did the Isle Royale trip in 2020, and I contacted him for advice. He invited me to sail with him, and with Nate (the Hobie sailor) on a camp-cruise trip through the Apostle Islands. Matt has a video of that trip. I'm Bob with the blue and white sail.
Last year...
Are you winter sailing in the tropics, in the gulf coast, or the North Atlantic? Different needs.
I assume you're not winter sailing in the upper midwest because we have iceboats for that.
Drysuit. Check Wetsuitoutlet. The Gul suits sell for under $400. No comparison between any wetsuit and a drysuit. Make sure you're not looking at diving drysuits, they are a completely different animal. Sailing, kayaking, surfing drysuits are all suitable.
Oh geez. Yeah, this is an issue in "titled" states. I ran into that before when I tried to register an untitled kayak. Illinois just recently relaxed the laws regarding titling small boats.
I wonder if I can title your boats in Illinois on a bill of sale, then you can transfer title in...
There's a book, "As Wild As the Wind" (Original more apropos title was "This Book Is Drunk" LOL!) in which James Lee Meadows describes sailing from Miami to Boston on his Sunfish. Mostly drunk and high along the way...it was 1977...
He makes a claim of hitting 22 mph on his boat. Did I mention...
I made a winch setup for a car cargo box, but it'd work as well for a boat. Farm and Fleet trailer winch, blocks from Amazon that can be mounted on edge or flat. 1/4" line.

I'll send you a PM
Chris Picknally can handpaint sails (the GoldShark is hand painted) or now, I believe he can print large scale graphics on sails. You can find him on Facebook. He does great work! Look closely (expand the photo) of the goldfish...there are little bubbles coming off the shark...
Yeah, my son was OOD qualified on the USS Cole. Since that attack, the Navy has no sense of humor about any unauthorized craft approaching their ships. I think you'd be lucky if they ONLY used a .50 cal on you. Destroyers also carry Phalanx CWIZ...
I have a knockoff of the aero south rudder that I bought on eBay. Makes for a lighter helm, and has better bite when the boat heels over on big gusts. It has accidentally kicked up on me a time or two, not sure if it hit a seaweed tangle.
Also I get a hum at speed. The daggerboard already does...
Geez. I've been reading this thread with an air of superiority. I have a float on my Hobie, but didn't see the need for one on Sparky the Sunfish. Until yesterday.
I capsized on Lake Koshkonong, which has a max depth of about 5'. (I wish I had a video of the dump. I tacked and as I shifted my...
