Been here since 1962, fishing, camping, hiking, kayaking, swimming etc. The danger of Alligators, moccasin's etc are for the most part, all hype. Sure bad things happen and I'm not meaning to generalize because like I said, bad things happen. That said, they usually happen to stupid people...
I had capsized several times to practice self rescue. Honestly? That's the most fun I had with her. Everyone's terrain is equally as flat when you're on the water. =) To me, sailing is a bit too boring. Unless it's windy, you just sit there and pray for it to be windy. And again, I prefer to be...
I altered the price... thank you. Better than kayaking? Not for me. I tried to like sailing, I really did. It was fun working on her and getting her cleaned up. My problem/s are several. I'm on the Gulf here in FL and the shelf is very shallow. I could drag the daggerboard easily 5 miles out...
It's a great group. Like you, I bought mine just a few weeks ago and I'm teaching myself alone as well. Lots of trials, and more that a few errors but I wouldn't have it any other way. =) Best of luck and just have a great time out there. It's a blast.
Learn to correct this when it happens because it will. Not to scare you in anyway, it's super easy to right the boat. Make sure daggerboard is secured with a bungie so it won't slide out of the pocket when inverted. Ask me how I know. lol
No the area is clear of that. I hadn't thought of that. I'll try and remember to bring my GoPro next time. That said, I hope it doesn't happen again to film. haha
Not mine but that one. Fish is a 2002 Vanguard. And yes, the noise could have very well been the flutter of the dagger board. Never had the noise prior though and conditions were very similar.
I'll do just that prior to my next outing. Thank you even though it's considered a gezzer rig. lol I'm 61, that hurts a little. =)
Something I noticed this last outing and I think I figured it out a few minutes ago.
I was hearing a faint, strange almost/kind of a groaning noise coming from the...
I'm hearing a bazillion different measurements and would like a few replies please from those more experienced than I.
Recreational user and beginner here. 6', 170lb. Will for nearly all sailings be just myself. Possibly my 30lb dog in addition but only after I get much more proficient. Right...
I wish my third had been a charm. I felt like an idiot out there this last time. Just couldn't get into the flow so to speak. Well that and the fact if I didn't crack a rib, I sure bruised the hell out of a few. I'll not mention the knot on the back of my head. lol
Oh yeah I forgot. My biggest...
FRP dagger, rudder is wood. I would have thought the same about pulling it up but it wasn't so simple. Freshly tightened shock cord did the trick though.
And my last until I get a few things up to par. Went out Sunday evening for a few hours. I found I wasn't having the best of days sailing so I brought her closer to shore to try a self rescue. It didn't take long for me to see a few things go wrong and fast.
1. I needed to secure all lines much...
