    Blatantly Non-Class Legal Laser Modifications

How about this? This is pretty blatant... After everyone who I usually sail with saw it they picked out everything else that's questionable on my boat. Worked flawlessly

    Bent Deck Plate - Why???

I'm now considering changing the security line after having to fix the holes(which I thankfully did without installing an inspection port). But since I made all the rigging myself, I know how it works. And since I know how it works, I know it works for me. Nickolas, I'm not sure what you mean...

    Bent Deck Plate - Why???

I don't know why it bent. I was not the last person to sail my boat... when properly rigged, my mainsheet is long enough to sail way by the lee and still not have tension on the security line. So who knows. Maybe they didn't tie the mainsheet to the back of the boat and dropped it going...

Oh ya? Try this on for size!

    News Australian Speed Rivalry

Wow. I think the best I've done was probably about 16 and I thought I was gonna die. The boat felt like it was gonna rip apart as I jumped over waves. I cant imagine going any faster.

The vang: taking one purchase out. Then what?

Oh interesting. I almost moved to the Netherlands a few years ago. Would have been some great sailing opportunities over there!

    Main Sheet Problem

I’ve never gotten it caught on a tack but I also haven’t sailed a lot of sunfish. For me it gets caught on gybes like when I’m in a laser. When your heading up into your tack I would trim in your sail all the way and then let it out a little to flatten and then trim in again. This will help the...

The vang: taking one purchase out. Then what?

I’ve always used a 15:1. I know the 12:1 is popular but I’ve never tried it. I’ve used a 10:1 before on my practice boat a few times but always found it hard to pull on that extra but in heavy air. What would the arrangement for the blocks look like in the methods you listed above? I have a...

The vang: taking one purchase out. Then what?

I actually have had ever since 2001 a 5x3 instead of a 3x5, and it runs very smoothly. I'll try a 4x3 later in the season, and if it works better, I'll probably rig a 2x2x3 from scratch, to minimize friction. _ Do you have any pictures of these configurations? Sounds like something to try out.

Yes I used Marlow excel and yes the black bits don’t melt which was a confusing surprise. It’s good to know that I can take the core out. I’ll have a lot of the stuff left. Is there a way to tell by looking at a line if the core or shell is I looked at the rules and they say for splices that...

I think I’ve got at most 5 knots on the entire boat only because I couldn’t splice it. I went a little overboard but I would have rather spent all day doing that with my neighbors watching me like I’m a crazy person than study inside! For the splices in the control lines I did a lock splice...

I just realized there are no pictures of the spinnaker up! The purple and orange somehow work really well...

I never measured the rake and since my sailing practices have been canceled I have no way to get a tension gauge until it’s reopened. I would send some video of my last excursion but I can’t attach any. We sailed into a lull and I went flying around the bow. Very fun! What color is the roga...

We made one chock that we thought would work for the wind strength we were going to see and then just hoped it was the right size. I haven’t tuned it yet but I’ve setup as much as I could according to the tuning guides. It felt really balanced even without tuning. But those numbers will be cool...

I put it in at the north end of Canandaigua Lake. US 1214 will know where that is.

I went sailing yesterday. Its so smooth and planes very easily! No water came in through the centerboard trunk either. I had everything dialed in pretty well apart from the vang. I just need to shorten up the primary lines and I'll be good I think. Everything felt pretty balanced apart from a...

Here are those pictures of the jib. I’ve started splicing my lines today. Looking good so far! I also got the mast in the right spot.

Ya when I have my mast up with no sails the shrouds are not loose like a 420s. I emailed Mr. Hughes about a week ago but id imagine he's pretty busy so he hasn't responded. I might shoot him another one in the next few days if he doesn't respond but I'm not really in a huge rush to get new...

You should totally make a tuning thread! That discussion would be pretty interesting. And it would not only help people new to the boat but it would probably teach experienced sailers as well. Is the right forestay length when the widest part of the mast is at the very back of the mast gate? I...

Wow were on a second page now! The boat is still flipped over on blocks. Sanding and waxing is done. The hull is looking so much better than before. I did my best to remove the corrosion on those metal pieces. I think Im gonna sail the boat first and see how much water comes in. When I replace...
