Very old coloured lasers can be painted with two pack epoxy, need to repair all the cracks and scratches 1st though. Great finish can be achieved with foam roller (Dulux) application "tipped off" with a foam brush.
I have seen lots of lasers with these hull deformations but none so far where it has caused a problem. Fibreglass is surprisingly flexible if pressure is applied over time in a warm environment, unless there is any cracking ignore it. they may even disappear once you have a better trolley for a...
Looks like it has worn through the mast tube, putty glue and the whole of the mast step, repair is better done with epoxy resin if you can get it. It is really important to get the area dry as well because that hull is going to have a bucket full of water inside despite your best effort to drain...
Logically with over 200,000 lasers built how many of the surviving hulls are ever likely to sail in an "official" event? I suspect the answer is a very small proportion therefore the market for budget price replica kit must be considerably larger than for the premium priced class legal gear.
APS gone? That's a real shame mind you I have not bought anything from them since they went over to expensive courier shipping. When they used the US post global shipping pack ($9?) it was worth buying half a dozen mast wear strip packs even in the UK.
Best long term solution is to add the wear tapes to the mast (cheap from APS in the USA) and a sacrificial plastic disk dropped into the bottom of the mast step, result is no wear in your laser mast step ever!:) The mast leans a bit towards the gooseneck because of the weight of the rig so...
It has probably worn through the bottom of the mast step as well, I usually cut a fibreglass disk (sanded smooth) out of the bit of deck removed for the hatch hole, pour in about 25 ml of epoxy resin and drop in in.
The epoxy levels out the bottom of the mast step plus fills any cracks and the...
