It's not a Sunfish, so what is it?

Here are some update pics. Sanded the deck with 1000-3000 grit and polished with some cutting wax. Turned out pretty well. Installed a swivel cam for the main.

It's not a Sunfish, so what is it?

Quick update. Got the old drain tube out and found the drain was actually drilled through some kind of material. It was pretty brittal so the bottom had cracked and broken. Definitely where the water was coming in. Repaired the hole with marine-Tex and inserted a new brass tube. The hold of...

It's not a Sunfish, so what is it?

I think I'm going to use this method. This is apparently how Boston Whaler does their transom drain holes. Installing Drain Tubes with a Flanging Tool This is what they should have done in the first place. Flair both sides with an o-ring to seal it up. It looks like they just stuck a tube...

It's not a Sunfish, so what is it?

The hole is 1" OD. I think its a standard cockpit drain. Something like this. WEST MARINE Transom Drain Tubes | West Marine I think I can get the old one out and put in a new one. Guess you seal the top and then also seal the bottom with some 4200 and hope for a good seal. I think I'd be ok...

It's not a Sunfish, so what is it?

Here is my issue. Bottom of the drain tube is corroded. Likely letting water in while in the floating . Do I just yank this thing out and replace it?

It's not a Sunfish, so what is it?

I don't think its very heavy. I just noticed some water coming out of the cockpit drain when I moved it. It must have come from inside. I would be happy to just repair the drain but I have no idea how. Its a metal tube of some kind. ill try and take a picture today. I too don't like the idea...

    Building a new Daggerboard

I might be able to make that work. Is there a difference between the GRP boards and the ones that Intensity sells? I don't really plan to race this boat, but I do hate sailing slow. Wondering if a wood one might be stronger.

    Building a new Daggerboard

Haha. I can't take credit for those blocks. I pulled that from the 2007 ad for a copy of my boat. The old one was certainly a slab. Now that I think about the shape I guess it would be fine. I am not sure on the dimensions though about the trunk deth. Mine is 15 inches from deck to keel...

    Building a new Daggerboard

If you check out this picture it seems to be canted aft. I would think that would mean the foil is all wrong relative to the flow of the water.

    Building a new Daggerboard

That intensity board is nice and for $175 bucks is definitely worth it. If I bought a sheet of marine plywood and invested in epoxy resin i'd be out at least that. I'm not sure that board will work though. It looks to go straight down while I think my daggerboard trunk is tilted back. I'll...

It's not a Sunfish, so what is it?

That Sandshark is a cool looking boat. Kinda like a Scow. It sounds like my boat has had several names, Panther, S-Cat, Sun Dolphin... I'm guessing mine is a later model since the other one that was sold on this site was an 87 and also called a Sun Dolphin. My plan is to add some inspection...

    Building a new Daggerboard

I know what you mean about it needing to be strong enough to hang on. I have a 20' sportboat that has a lifting centerboard and when I've flipped it that centerboard gets a decent amount of force on it to help right the boat. So it sounds like plywood is the way to go then?

    Building a new Daggerboard

Hey guys. I am working on getting my new Sunfish Clone (Lockely Newport Scat or Gloucester Yachts Sun Dolphin) back on the water and one thing that has to be completely replaced is the daggerboard. It's warped beyond repair. I know I can go the marine plywood and varnish route, but just...

It's not a Sunfish, so what is it?

Thank you L&VW. That link is awesome. That Lockley-Newport Boats Inc. Gloucester, VA is definitely the same boat. It has a Gloucester Yachts sticker and I think Gloucester Yachts and Lockley Newport merged in the 80s. I bet Gloucester Yachts made this from the Lockley Newport molds and tried to...

It's not a Sunfish, so what is it?

The boat in that Shorty Pen site is the only other one I've been able to find online. It was sold on here I think in Portsmouth VA. So far it looks to be in good shape. There is a repair on the starboard side that seems to be suspect. I might clean that up. Otherwise there are just a couple...

It's not a Sunfish, so what is it?

I just picked up this boat from a gentleman on the Eastern Shore of VA. The sail calls it a Sun Dolphin, but I can't find any info on it! Do you guys know what the heck I bought? Its got a Gloucester Yachts sticker in the cockpit.
