I put a cleat on my Minifish because there is no block before the deck cleat and they have a tendency to pull out with a lot of upward force. Once I did it I found it makes things so much easier that I put one on the Sunfish.
One place it makes life easier is putting the sail up and down from...
A few weeks ago I was down in Baja and one of the days was pretty light so I took the air wedge with me and it worked perfectly.
Because of the light winds, I had the daggerboard pulled up about a third of the way and the chop was causing the slight slop in the daggerboard to make it knock every...
I just bought this thing—just because I thought it was a neat thing to have.
Its this little inflatable rubber bag:

... and as I was looking at it in the store I thought, "yah know... maybe I can keep it handy on the...
Totally looks like the same boat and sail. Actually I have this stripe scheme I have not seen before with two narrow yellow strips on either side of the wide red one. Most I have seen have all three stripes red.
My FRP one does the low hum at higher speeds, I thought something was wrong.
Thanks Charlie, I am pretty sure its a Barrington on the Minifish. My Sunfish has a racing style fiberglass one with a stainless tip I put on to cover some damage, I think you saw that thread I did on that. The Minifish daggerboard has clearly been refinished or replaced by the previous owner as...
Hi Charlie,
Both the boats and their respective centerboards are currently in Baja—unfortunately I am not.
I try to do all the research and collect parts before I go down to sail as it is quite isolated down there with no place to buy anything except duct tape and beer.
I was going to go down...
Oh, yeah, I was thinking about drilling a hole like Cactus was saying (and varnishing inside the hole,) but maybe the guy before me refinished the daggerboard (there is no way that the finish was original) and left off the eyes trap.
Coincidentally, I just happened to order a couple extra eye...
The daggerboard in my Sunfish is an FRP racing style, but the daggerboard in my Minifish is the traditional mahogany type. I assume it is original.
My questions is, inn't there supposed to be a hole to run a line though it to make it easier to pull out or to tie the shock cord to? I cannot see...
I THINK the spars are the same just shorter—and I think the goosenecks are the same—I hope so, I just ordered a quick adjust thingy for both of them. Like Seaotter said the mast is the same diameter. I will have to check and measure next time I am down in Mexico, which will be in a couple of...
I got the Idea from Tag. Some others mentioned that its a racer things to do. I went this route because the Minifish does not have a halyard fairlead or little block like the Sunfish and I heard that someone tore out their cleat from the deck of a Minifish because the halyard pulls straight up...
The first time I sailed a Sunfish I was 15 on vacation in Jamaica with friends who had a house there. I had so much fun for two weeks I do not know why it took me almost exactly 40 years to buy one and get back to into it.
I just wanted to relay my experience with a Minifish I just bought because it is such a blast—and compare it to the Sunfish if anyone is interested.
Both boats are mid-70s.
The Minifish is incredibly easy to toss around, load on a car, throw on a trailer, and pull up on a beach—much easier...
