    I am now 87 and due to COVID my trips to the lake have been curtailed but I was enjoying my sunfish till I was about 84 .With the more frequent capsize I found getting back in the boat was getting more difficult. The boat will still remain part of the cottage fleet for all the younger family to use.

    This is my effort at a replacement. You will need a hacksaw,drill gun with 3/32drill and a file .     Rudder in retracted position

    I think the wave action punishment would be the same whither the rudder blade be up, down or in between. The spring will still travel thru it’s normal range during every up/down cycle.The spring is never fully retracted after it’s installation

    Thanks for your prompt reply.Looking on the web the standard set screw seems to be 1/2 13 tpi so I will pick one up and try next time at lake. With COVID it might be still a few weeks but will let you know.

    I cut noodle in half lengthwise and slotted each half. Snapped one on top of spar and one on end of boom.They snap tight and do not require any other fasteners.Never had a turtle problem & being 85 I end up in the water quite often

    I like the idea of a new type plug .Is it relatively easy to remove old recepticle Is the new plastic one bonded in place . Does it fit in the old hole or what size? What tools do I need. Thanks for all help.
