I've never sailed during the winter , therefore I have a basic question: how does it work sailing in the rain? does it make sailing miserable? There's a storm and good wind (weather.com says 10-25mph), vs the daily 5-10 like it's been for weeks, so i'm dying to go... is rain ok? Also there's...
Each semester for math academy (in school) we have to write a research paper. For this semester, I chose to create my own topic which I chose to be "math in sailing". It's a pretty big subject, to how sailboats work even to navigation, so if it's hard to find info about math in how sailboats...
I was just thinking of the seitech 2 boat trailer racks... the ones where you put your boat (laser) deck-down, and I realized something. How do you keep your boat from sliding forwards or backwards and off, onto the road? I suppose a line from one side of the rack frame through the bow eye and...
So we've acquired a laser 2, without trailer or dolly, so we're hoping to modify our current trailer with a 2 boat rack, and make a dolly for the laser 2. When I say we, I mean me. my dad's too overworked now, and he's ready to give up on the laser 2 (we dont' have rigging, and can't find used...
First off, we just got a laser 2 hull for free. 1989, never sailed (or maybe once, not sure) because the person who bought it bought it for competition, but the hull had a defect (one majorly soft spot, which is easily fixed but apparently not for racing), so Vanguard just sent him a new hull...
I'm looking for a laser for my dad...
Found one on craigslist.org, I'm going to look at it tomorrow. My dad looked at it on his way home from work today. He said the hull seemed stiff, I know that's good. However, he said all the rigging needs to be replaced, the sail is trash, and the bottom...
everytime i get up from a capsize and jump in to do a dry capsize, i have to be careful not to make any impacts on my cockpit, because a) i figure this is bad for any boat, and b) the sides of my cockpit are extremely soft(atleast compared to what i've felt on other boats). Should I be worried...
This isn't laser related at all, but during the fj practice today, i went to hike and there was no strap there... i fell off. now i know how that happens... :P it was hilarious
It was pretty gusty today, but not really strong wind. (these pics are taken mostly from the 10 second periods when i was upright. because of the gusts, I only went into the bay for a while).
Pictures taken by: my dad on a kayak
number of capsizes: 7 or 8
:P:P...
Anybody interested in creating an informal laser sailing day once a month or something in Santa Cruz? Once and a while I'll see another laser out, but not too often. Maybe once a month on sunday or friday...
I've already searched this, and I haven't found the answer to this:
Are there special teflon wear strips? We bought a roll of 3" dacron tape which is supposed to be anti-chafing (seems like everybody else uses teflon). Will this work on the lower mast section , protecting the mast step?
This is a cosmetic question... Since I bought my used laser, I've been wondering where the laser decals went (near the back, hull). There's a shadow around the square where it used to be, like the hull faded and then the decal was taken off. Where do you find laser hull decals?
Any laser sailors in Santa Cruz?
I met somebody today in a red laser,he's fairly new to sailing... If you're reading this, post. I was just wondering if you joined.
Everybody else, I'd like to know who sails lasers in SC, I'll go sailing with you sometime :P
On vanguard's website , it says this about windy days/reefing:
"There are a few ways to go sailing on a really breezy day. One is to reef the sail. Take the top batten out, wrap the sail two or three times tightly and neatly around the mast, and rig up. A special 12’ outhaul line, which allows...
