I make my own fiberglass battens for the underside. I differ from what they show by grinding off
all the gelcoat on the removable part. After the part is glued in the entire part and it's attachemnt
area is covered in one piece of fiberglass. You could grind to the surrounding area to the...
Why the Shoreline method works for me is often the tub has a crack down the middle. I
can fiberglass the bottom of the tub before moving on. The whole idea was to reuse the
broken piece by encapsulating it in fiberglass top and bottom. Normally you would never
reuse the broken part but...
If you mess around with used Sunfish Sunfish the damage shown is very common. Get
familiar with the Shoreline method of repair because you'll be doing it many times. The
good part is you can add extra layers to the back of the damaged section you removed
so that it's pretty much unbreakable...
I have a old style rudder. I'm thinking the shipping cost is going to be a lot more
than what it takes to make a new one as I'll only send the whole unit with bracket and tiller
handle. It's such a cool wall hanger I don't have the heart to break it up. What Alan said!
If it's split it's...
Thingverse has some Sunfish parts including a rudder blade. The
mast cap looks like a improvement over the stock unit. We just
need someone to print these and try them out. I'd be interested to see
a sunfish with as many printed parts a possible, see if they all
hold up.
Rudder bracket could use some additional webbing as
it has a cracking problem in the corners. Some gussets
in the corners might help. If you could print it in nylon
it would be pretty indestructible.
Subject comes up from time to time but that's as far as it goes. Need someone
who's both a 3D printer enthusiast and Sunfish enthusiast. Drain plug and Rudder
bracket come to mind. It would only take one person and the 3D designs would be
floating around on the internet for eternity.
Probably a Wet Suit but then you need to determine
the thickness of the Wet Suit depending on how cold
you are going and knowing when a Wet Suit can no
longer help you. I stay away from cold water as it
can impact my health if I get it wrong.
Someone truly knew what they were doing but why? That's a fantastic
amount of labor done professionally. Someones college thesis in
hydrodynamic engineering or a bet made after too many beers?
Been looking for someone to try printing the Depsersia drain plugs. The trick
would be to have enough printing resolution to do the threads.
The overpriced plastic rudder cheeks they sell could be engineered better. The
reinforcement webbing allows cracks in the corners. Thicker webbing, a...
That is a common crack, what does the keel under the tub look like? If you are
lucky/unlucky enough to have cracked or damaged keel it's easy to enough
to fiberglass the bottom of the tub when you cut out the damaged section of
the keel. I've not tried it but if you can put a inspection port...
You can use a standard pipe plug found at the hardware store. A Garbard Plug
also works. Rubber stopper/ cork or no plug at all is also good. Outside threads
are also standard and the retaining ring is a standard sink drain retainer.
If you go slow enough the daggerboard is stalling out. It may be fully down but
is not able to provide any lift to counter the sail. If it's NOT a proper foil shape
it will stall out at a higher speed/lower angle of attack. The racing board should help a lot but there
is still a minimum speed...
You can cut out the broken section and insert a aluminum sleeve. I have one with a break in the same
area where someone welded a sleeve on the outside. If you figure in the time and effort need for repair
I'd just buy a used one somewhere and be done with it.
