Well I ended up buying a Harbor freight folding trailer that is 4x8ft deck area, as I had an immediate need to haul some things about 200 miles. My load was bulky but weighed less than two sunfish. It trailered nice and didn't seem too bouncy, so I think with the extra weight of a wooden...

    I have an idea!

^^^I was also going to suggest using one of the tubes to store the sail and spars in, although they may need to be longer?

    My two new Sunfish

So an update from several months later..... We have been able to date the newer hull to 1977. The older one best we can figure is between 1960-65 as it has two brass deck mounted drain ports (later ones only got one). Have had them baking in the sun for a few months, but hadn't cut inspection...

    Tail Wheel

Great idea to keep the hull off the ground. Similarly you could use a block of woos instead if a wheel as that would give the necessary clearness for the hull and also work like a parking brake so the while thing doesn't roll away if you get distracted.

    Varnish or epoxy or....

I just ordered epoxy yesterday and have my stuff disassembled and plan to coat it prior to reassembly so the epoxy and varnish can pent rate all the holes and form a better barrier. Also polishing the brass on my pre-72 rudder/tiller and plan to clearcoat it (to try and keep it shiny)...

How do I paint a sunfish?

Another trick I learned painting cars (believe it or not the car in my avatar is painted with Rustoleum from a spray can), is after final sanding before paint, to wash the car with a light mix of Dawn dish detergent. It will remove any left over oils (they use it on water birds that get stuck...

I saw this one in a CL ad for the whole lot and I think I like it the best so far (except no room for bikes, etc). EZ to build and use. My buddy welds so I could make it out of metal and add a t rack on top for our two kayaks as well. It's going to have a wait a little while though as some...

    Varnish or epoxy or....

Just sanded down the rudder for the fish, and wondered what is the best coating to put on it. I thought about marine varnish, but that is not really made to be submerged all the time... Then I thought about epoxy, and someone said that's not great either. What is everyone on here using...

All good info. I was kinda leaning (no pun intending) toward the A-frame type and possibly putting a T on the top for kayaks....and maybe some bikes, lol. Maybe I need a 20' encolsed toy hauler ha ha ha.

I recently acquired two sunfish and we are in the process of getting them ready for the water. One is a 1960-66 model and the other from around 1977. Anyway we got them home in the back of two station wagons, but want a trailer so we can pull them behind the car or our motorhome. So I've...

    My two new Sunfish

Thanks for all the great advice. The yellow one doesn't have any storage in the cockpit so I guess it's a '70 or older. I will look for serial numbers in the next day or so (dark by the time I get home). I really haven't had any time to look at them yet, other than to hit them with a hose...

    My two new Sunfish

First Post as I just joined... Two days ago I scored two complete Sunfish. As it turned out, it was a salvage operation as they were both full of water and duck poop behind the guys house in the lake. I'm very excited to get them as my daughter has been taking sailing lessons and loves...
