An interesting article. I would like to see a video of how our boat is manufactured. For example, a "How it's Made " episode. I love that show. Such a thing might answer a lot of people's questions and help with maintenance/repairs.
You might consider drilling a hole through one of the shafts so that you could insert a pin or keeper of some kind below the gudgeon. My Laser came with one and I use it as cheap insurance. Hard to drill stainless though.
I had the exact same problem with my tiller scratching up the aft deck..I epoxied a couple of stainless washers onto the pins of the rudder that go through the gudgeon so as to raise the whole rudder assembly up just a bit..Has worked great for two years now..

Greetings folks,
I would like to take my adventurous girlfreind with me on my standard Laser but it seems as though it would be rather tricky. The thing is, I would prefer that she came back with the same number of teeth we set off with . I was thinking of making a tiller with an 18"...
Which is faster, a Force 5 or a Laser? Does the F5 have any technical advantages or disadvantages? I'm asking because eventually I will go up against by brother's F5 and I need to know how much to wager.
