If you were going to "move up" from a Sunfish to a sailboat you sit in rather than on (one more suitable for two full size adults) which would you choose and why??
AMF Puffer or O'day Widgeon??

AMF Puffer or O'day Widgeon??
So in flipping my fish for storage for the winter I actually looked down the mast hole. Couldn't see much so I used my iPhone camera to illuminate and zoom in on what's at the bottom. Looking at the photos blown up on my monitor I see it appears stepped. Anybody know why or what for??
Looking at a listing on Craigslist and see a Gen 1 rudder with a "tongue".
Can someone explain this to me or share a better photo?
My rudder pins in to a deck plate where this one has the "tongue" bolted to it.

I use a clip like this...
Currently sailing a Sunfish, which love but....
I would like to move up to a small sailboat that you sit in rather than on.
For sentimental reasons a Widgeon tops my list.
In scanning the ads I found a Sumner Sprite and a Flying J that look interesting.
Any thoughts, opinions, insight???
Began my season on 4/24.
Have not had the correct conditions for a second outing.
Actually dropped a pool thermometer in 20" of water today and measured 52 degrees.
Fond this article about cold water:
National Center for Cold Water Safety - What is Cold Water?
Sustained winds of 18-25 with gusts to (one of them) 40 mph.
1st. Turn down your sound.

15:00 to 17:00 shows the 2 foot rollers and whitecaps.
46:30 to 49:30 shows a 280 pound fat boy sailing it flat in a fun wind.
Sunday was a Fun Day. Wind at 10-12 mph with gusts to 20 or more.
Some Sunday boat traffic on the lake both rag baggers and stinkpots.
On one turn I got overconfident and did not loose the main when coming about and sure enough the tiller slipped out of my hand and I went over. Help came fast...
My partner is a phenomenal Sewer.
She is a quilter and has a long arm quilting machine as well as six other sewing machines in the house..
So asking her to stitch me up a sail bag from a blue poly tarp is kind of like asking Michelangelo to paint your bathroom.
But to give her a start, does...
Ok, been out a half dozen times and I have noticed that my Sunfish much prefers sailing on a port tack. Yes, I have the boom on the port side of the mast. So why is it that the boat goes faster on the port tack?? This afternoon I played with different points but she just seemed faster with the...
Seems to me that a lot of folks with "heavy hulls" that were sitting on dry land may have had water leak in around the bailer (especially if it was sitting on a trailer). Also some of my reading here and elsewhere covers water coming into the cockpit through the bailer. Not knowing or having a...
When it stops raining I will test this down by the lake.
More photos later

Fiddle with the wingnut on the hull hardware. You want it tight enough that the blade will not pop up when sailing but loose enough to release if you ground or hit a stump. Sorta like downhill ski bindings: tight enough so you release in a bad...
Not my first post but I am new to the forum(s) in the last two-three weeks.
Grew up on the Hudson River just a few tacks south of Albany.
Learned to sail with my "Uncle Larry" in his homemade boat and his Lightning.
Also sailed a Widgeon with one of my HS Social Studies teachers.
I sailed Lasers...
Does anyone know of a good tracking app for sailing.
I have been using Ski Tracks in "Cross Country" mode.
Trying "Map My Hike" next time out.
Looking for one that posts online so S.O. can monitor me out on the lake alone.
I would think some parents might like that real time monitoring as well...
