Sounds like you did a good job. Did you take any before & after pics? (Or did you forget to take the before pics, like me?... Duh)!
Post them if you've got them! One question though, why West and not just fiberglass resin and matt as that's what the boat was originally made from. Not...
The auto bailer and the brass drain fitting are sold separately. You'll need 2 different sized drill bits, a drill and a tube of silicone. I used 3M 4200 Marine sealant instead of silicone... It's good stuff!
The instructions are pretty straight forward. Don't forget to use the sealant when...
Hey Andy,
I just did a mast step repair. Check out this thread if you haven't already. I've included some pics.
I used a 5" inspection port. It was plenty big enough to do all the work. Simply trace the inside of the portion of the part that you will mount in the hole. That will give you a...
I removed the cockpit brass collar drain assembly, removed all the silicone and cleaned up the surrounding area. I reinstalled it using 3M 4200 sealant then installed an automatic bailer. Although it wasn't very windy on the weekend, after 3 hours of sailing there wasn't one drop of water inside...
In Ontario, a bailer or manual water pump is not required for any self-bailing sealed hull sailing vessel fitted with a recess-type cockpit that cannot contain a sufficient quantity of water to make the vessel capsize, or a multi-hull vessel that has subdivided multiple-sealed hull construction.
I sail my boat on a lake in northern Ontario which is part of the Trent Waterway System. Lift locks at both ends so you can go from lake to lake, on & on... In other words, it's a well traveled.
When I had my Sea-Doo's, we used to get pulled over by the Police all the time. They would check...
Actually, I had 2 - 1996 Sea-Doo XP's stolen a couple years ago. Mind you, they were on a trailer in my brother's driveway at the time. After a year-long fight with my insurance company, they finally paid up. I never replaced them. They were fun but with the price of gas these days, they'd be a...
Between sailing on weekends, I keep my new acquisition (1975 # 29355 cottage beater) on my friend's dock. I have it locked to his Sea-Doo with a hefty steel cable. All the bits are locked in the cottage and shed.
Question is, do hull's alone get stolen very often? I know that if you want to...
I can always put the (cockpit) plug in and fill it with water and see if it's leaking into the boat. We did a really good job installing the inspection port and used 3M 4200 sealant as was recommended by Fogh Marine. I doubt it's leaking there.
Last Saturday, I drained the boat completely...
It's probably still leaking at the base. That was the worst part. When I go up north this weekend, I'll do the test you suggested.
I didn't measure the water that came out but when I tipped the boat up and pulled the plug out, water ran out at a steady rate for about 45 seconds. I can't...
I posted this in another section but since you asked... I forgot to take a before picture but it appeared to be in good shape, nothing out of the ordinary from inside the hull.

Well, I repaired the mast step on Saturday...
I'm sure some of the resin did fill in the the cracks at the bottom of the step when I poured it in. The donut was in near perfect condition from what I could tell, very solid. The depth now measures 14".
As for leaking into the boat, it looks like the previous owner installed a brass collar...
Well, I repaired the mast step on Saturday. It went something like this... Cut an inpection port, dried out the inside with a hair dryer, sanded the area to be glassed, cleaned it with acetone, cut 8 strips of fiberglass matt 1.5" x 9", shredded some more matt, mixed the resin/hardener, took the...
