New (to me) Sunfish. Need repairs?

fill and sand smooth. you may need to install an access port on the deck in a spot that you can survey the interior and also check on water intrusion. You should also straighten or re-align the metal bailer fitting by approx. 45 degrees to the north.

"Singles Cruise" - My sunfish repair/restoration project.

Good job on the centerboard and rudder, they look great and should work well. I would suggest replacing all the lines: new halyard, new mainsheet, and new bridle. If you do what was mentioned above: just wash the deck, repair and work on the bottom, and get a good working hiking stick attached...

Can you teach a beginner to sail in 20+ knot winds?

I think it was well proven that you can definitely teach someone in 20+. Yes, it helped that Megan was athletic and had no fear. She was very game to drive, flip, and I can't believe she was walking the bow with a camera in hand on day one. I wish he had a ratchet, and that she was wearing...

    Cunningham/outhaul Upgrade

I have purchased from Intensity in the past and am always happy with their product and service. The Intensity website is pretty clear on the legality and usage of their products.

    Cunningham/outhaul Upgrade

I don't think Intensity sells builder supplied Laser parts. I thought they sold replicate parts that are not officially class legal. I am sure a class measurer or other person with more knowledge will follow up with official answer.

Can You Identify This Hull And Maybe Its Owner?

Wow, proves the power of the Laser Forum. Any way to document the recovery and the probable restoration? As mentioned, hopefully the hull is in workable shape. How was it lost? How far did it travel? What shape is it in? Are they happy to rid the yard of it? Looks like a good story. Congrats to...

Is this a legal set up for a laser outhaul?

I'm fairly sure (don't quote me on this) that it doesn't matter what blocks you use on the controls. But it seems perfectly legal. (Again find/talk to a measurer for absolute confirmation). I have a question about the 2 control blocks on the deck plate for Outhaul and Cunningham. Can these...

What type of Laser is this?

    Newbie & Some Questions

congrats on jumping in to sailing. i moved back east recently after a few great years in the Minneapolis area. throw a rock and you'll hit a lake, the majority of which are used by active sailing fleets. I own and raced Lasers and was lucky to get a few rides on J-24's and even luckier to drive...

News D11: Jon?s Laser District 11 Championship Regatta Highlight Film

New laser in 10 days - transport questions

If trailering with your Kitty Hawk, which is just what i do, and you only use the bottom cover - Beware. If it rains at all, the cover will trap the run-off water and either separate from the boat in the aft half or just sag. You must stop and empty it or it really screw things up. Make sure...

    Centreboard trouble...

What kind of shockcord or bungee cord tension are you using? The bungee cord would run from the hole in the top of your centreboard back to the boweye. If tensioned properly this would eliminate having to hold the board up. Sometimes too much tension will cause the board to 'pull' up while...

laser stored outside filled with a ton of water

First, keep looking. The damage that the freeze-thaw cycle of water and ice probably caused to the interior will be hard to fix. if it was stored deck-up, the water could have seeped in through the mast step or the cockpit. That much water in a hull for a winter season is just not good...

    Self bailer for cockpit

i don't know if glassing over your bailer is a good idea. repairing it and knowing how to use it may be a better option. racing or not, a functioning bailer is a good thing. even having it available after racing on the trailer to empty the cockpit is useful.

    Laser Trailer Opinions

i am a huge kittyhawk fan also. I take my sietech dolly strapped on top of boat when trailering. The transfer from kitty to dolly is one person. Not sure what the other versions weigh, but there has got to be gas savings over the heavier flatbed trailer that are modified to hold a laser. And you...

Rigging questions before my first time out

just a few quick observations. using clear tape on the lower mast to snug up the connection is OK. just experiment with one layer at at time so you don't make it so tight you can't separate them. you mentioned replacing screws or fittings. always use caulk on the fitting or the screw...

    carbon extension repair

i checked on the ACME site, but i thought the Repair Kit was only for a universal replacement. are you saying that the kit can be modified or used to repair a break? If i go the glass wrap and epoxy route - can those materials be had at West Marine or equivalent? Would i need to insert a...

    carbon extension repair

i used the search section already, because i remember this topic coming up before. What is recommended repair for an Acme fatso extension that has had a section of the end broken? Approx 4 to 5 inches from the end of my extension got caught and bent back causing a break. it still has half of...

    sailing competition coming up...

if your stuck with what you have then check the entire boat: hull, fittings, blades, lines. check for excessive wear. sand the blades(centerboard and rudder) and maybe put a coat of white enamel paint, then wet sand smooth. Fill any gouges, scrapes, or holes on the hull, sand and wet sand...
