Princess,
Just get any number from any hardware store. The outside diameter is 5/8" and the
inside dia. is 7/16". Cost is two for less than a dollar. Installation might drive you nuts if
you are new to it. Using a screwdriver, pop out the shaft, hang the bands on both the
shaft and housing...
Dear Powergroove,
1. You must use the vang as supplied by the builder.
2.Deck cleats of your choice must be mounted on the deck block supplied
by the builder.
3.Blocks at base of mast must be attached the the builder supplied fitting
that replaces the eye strap...
Dear ABZLaser,
In most cases of a sticky sleeve the problem is in the outhaul lines and
system. If you disconnect the sheets the sleeve should slide freely,if it is
still sticky you did something else wrong, maybe overbent he sleeve as
you pushed it on the boom at installation.
The sleeve...
Victor,
The hook on both the tied down version and the sleeve version is absolutly,
positively mounted backwards, or wrong. The straight end MUST be to port.
As shown, the block is pulling on the wrong side of the hook loop and will
allow the sail to pop off the hook. This is a common...
Dear dobh and Rob B,
I am the inventor of the sleeve and can tell you the normal direction of
the hook end is straight down. Some angle aft a little bit, but at full
load straight down is normal. Be sure your pin is 1/2" long,as measured
from the underneath surface of the head to the near...
Dear Sailwriter,
I thought you might be interested in some history of the JC Strap. I invented
it during the time I was sailing the Finn and displayed it at the USA Finn
trials for the Pan American Games, which were to be held at Winnipeg, Canada
Our trials were held on Lake Minnetonka, in...
Laster in UK,
The boom diameter can be checked against USA booms by measuring the
circumference. With an accurate, flexible tape that is pulled tight, the
circumference should measure exactly 160 mm.
In lighter winds there is no retracting force in the sail, so a little push on the
sail is...
Tim,
There is not enough room to pin the clew directly to the sleeve. Also, I heard
that Jean- Luc Michon, the ILCA chief measurer is going to rule that the fitting must be used as supplied to maintain our one design integrity.
JC
Cindy, for starters you MUST install the fitting exactly according to the
instructions, especially with the straight open end of hook on port side of
boom. The sail will come off if you reverse it and you would be surprised by
how many have done that. To hook clew on and off, both vang and...
Tim Clark,
I suspect you mounted the hook backward,if the sail came off the hook. The open,
straight end of the hook MUST be on the port side of the boom. If backward
[open end of hook on starboard] it almost looks OK, but the sail will come off.
