I thought I remembered a thread from a couple years ago describing how to replace the gooseneck riviets with bolts. My rivets have loosened up & I suspect the holes in the lower mast section may have some corrosion so thought bolting would be best.
Just in case I decide to re-rivet, what is...
I have to be up in Wisconsin the weekend of July 18th and wondered whether anyone has recommendations for a fun laser regatta up in that part of the world?
At the risk of receiving extreme ridicule & realizing the obvious that I need to get my flabby self into the gym ....
please take a look at the enclosed pics and offer me your recommendations on improved sail trim to help keep the boat flatter.
Conditions were VERY gusty, with lulls down around...
This looks to be a great great time to be sailing down here. I am hearing persistent rumors that Liquid is signed up to be a Laser dealer - so after many years we'll finally have a local dealer again.
Lets come out and support them and have some fun sailing. Plenty of good deals on places to...
I really don't think there is a nicer place to be in October than the Emerald Coast, so come down and sail!!!
This regatta has been growing year by year & all had a great time at their spring regatta this year!
www.fwyc.org has the NOR
I was out sailing pretty flat water, light winds (5kts or a little more) and paid careful attention to the amount of leeway when beating. Seems like I am losing about a boat-length every 10-15 boat-lengths. This seems like a lot & I'm trying to figure out something I'm doing wrong so I don't...
My family has decided on a reunion in Scarborough Maine week of July 13. I would like to find a decent laser I could lease for the week, preferably on a dolly. As a minimum I'd bring my own sail, mainsheet & vang/cunningham setup. I'd rather not have to bring tiller/extension & blades but...
Liquid Surf & Sail of Fort Walton Beach FL sponsored their 3rd (I think) Windsurfer and One Design spring regatta at Fort Walton yacht Club this past weekend. (see fwyc.org for results)
We had 17 lasers and a bit fewer wind surfers. The first day started out very foggy and stayed light all...
Anyone else notice that Mr Seidenberg took the GGM with 7 bullets out of 8 scored races !!!
Let me see, its almost 20 years for me to get to GGM -- damn he'll have been sailing lasers for more than 50 years by then. I have no prayer!!!
Anyway Peter - I met you to say hello at the Midweek...
Come on up/down/left/right whatever it takes, to get to Fort Walton Yacht Club. Its a great time of year down here & I'll be there for Sunday so you are guaranteed not to be last :)
The Notice of Race is at the Fort Walton Yacht Club website: www.fwyc.org
Unfortunately our fleet captain is...
OK so if there is ever going to be a real change in the sail design it seems like there has to be a compelling business case that Vanguard, North (I am in Florida after all) and ILCA will make as much or more money than they do now off of laser sails.
So this spreadsheet shows my assumptions...
Had a great time Sunday in about 10-15kts, gusting as high as 20. Waves were pretty small as we were sailing in a bayou (yes I'm in the south!)
Anyway after a year and a half of sailing lasers I finally had a day where I was able to actually do some S turns and sail by the lee! What A BLAST...
I have a rules question from an incident I was involved with during a portsmouth race awhile back. There was no protest and I couldn't even say who else was involved if I had to, but I did wonder how to sort out who had the obligation to give way and how that was supposed to be accomplished...
I have an 86 that I purchased with what I assume is either a very early radial or M rig. It has the little cap and the lower section has a cleat for the halyard.
Was there a change in the tube characteristics of these lower sections between the M rig and the final radial rig? If so does...
From the perspective of a new member of one of the newest fleets
About 3 years ago Sam Grant and others made a concerted effort to reinvigorate dinghy sailing at Ft Walton Beach Yacht Club. He organized a series of Portsmouth races and most importantly - he worked with a local non-profit...
A few years ago at a V15 midwinters with light winds I watched virtually everyone (except me cause I hadn't seen it before) sharply heel the boat to leeward and then trim in and heel back to windward as they shot off the line.
Is this sort of kinetics legal at the start?
Well I promised that I would get back to y’all when I finally converted my trailer to allow carrying my boat on its dolly.
First I appreciate all the input from those of you that have built these conversions. They convinced me it was pretty easy and showed me how to do it.
I basically took off...
