No!
The heave-to manuever is used to stop a boat in heavy air and giant waves; or to park a boat while at sea or while waiting for the next race.
The roll tack is used to keep as much speed as possible during a tack. In fact, when done correctly, you can even accelerate (in light air)...
Anyone using the Scott Sails mentioned above? I'd seen the referenced post before and wondered.
Looks like they were the top dog up through 2008. Any SD sailors using them now?
Jim, resin-saturated, board-stiff sails are fast. And the louder the better. What you describe sounds like a...
Ed,
The harken system you show looks a bit over speced for the boat, but it will definately make it easier to adjust.
Which ever system you use, and whether you turn it upside down or not, ditch the wire pennant.
Then replace it with a piece of spectra.
"New standing rigging is the best insurance a new sailboat owner can buy."
Following this age-old advice has saved sailors countless dollars and probably a few lives over the years.
And since the shrouds are so inexpensive on the Capri, there's just no reason not to buy a new forestay and...
Thanks Ed,
I just installed new shrouds from Catalina Yachts. They have the plastic cover. But I wish they didn't. However, they are less than half the price of the ones from CD, and include the tangs (which fortunately were easy to remove).
In any case, I'll use the 3/16" measurement for...
One more question...
Well, two.
What is the diameter of the shrouds on the C14.2? I want to add shroud telltails, and it looks like they are diameter-specific.
Are you guys sailing with a mastead fly? Past rides' have had'm and I missed it on my first sail on the Capri.
Thanks Robert.
I sail in the Pacific and plan to keep the boat in a slip, so grounding shouldn't be an issue.
My only consern with the current setup is that if the control line is un-cleated, the board comes up. Not good.
Sailed the Capri for the first time on Saturday in the Boxing Day Regatta (77 boats!!!).
It was fun but I suspect that we were doing many things wrong.
The centerboard control line on my boat is setup so that when you pull the line, LOWERS the centerboard .
In the alternative...
Thanks Chem,
But I already have that drawing. Unfortunately, I have the same problem as the guy in Post 9. There's no ear on the underside of my barney post, on which to attach the triangle bracket.
Yet another question...
My mod 2 has the aluminum barney post. But there doesn't seem to be an ear on the underside to attache the triangle to.
Any ideas?
Thanks Lem,
Good to know that they are going toward the short ones, rather than away.
I've spent enough already, and haven't even got her out on the water.
This has been the most expensive free boat I've ever owned!
Spreader length: Hand book says there two versions (14” or 19”)? Is one better than the other?
I asked this question a long time ago and got no response.
My mod 2 has 14 inch spreaders.
Generally, shorter spreaders equate to tighter tacking angles.
Any ideas? What size are yours?
Hey Barker,
Yeah, I absolutely hate having to put bottom paint on a dingy. It's almost sacrilege.
But the boat came with a free slip in LA Harbor. So it'll need the paint.
Plan to paint her this weekend. Rig her over Christmas weekend, and launch her New Year's Eve... If all goes well.
You're right Bark, but don't Jinx me!!!
Boat's still upside down. Still need to paint it, flip it, add new standing rigging, all new lines, and a few blocks and cleats.
But I won't be done until she launched New Year's eve and we make the start line on time.
Then I'll be done, for this...
The process of rehab-ing my new/old boat includes replacing several blocks.
The most dificult job ahead of me appears to be replacing the center board control line turning block that sits below the cam cleat.
My question is, are there any tricks to getting inside the hull to hold the nut?
Got the old bottom paint sanded off last week.
Flipping the boat was much easier than expected.
Basically, we just rolled the trailer out from under the boat. Then flipped it over on the grass. Next, a buddy and I lifted, first the bow and then the stern, as my son slid saw horses...
