    News 2013 US Champs

As of yesterday a venue had not yet been found. The target area had been District 7 or 9, but they are taking bids from any District now.

Were did the calendar go on the old forum

There's a calendar on the laser.org site (which might have been where the laser forum calendar was pulling from anyway. You can get to it by going to http://laser.org and clicking on calendar or there's a search feature if you know what districts you are interested in here...

Roof racking or trailering... Vote for which you like best?

Both.... I keep the boat at home on a trailer, I can load it on the car by myself by having extra long roof bars. I trailer to anything that is less than ~3 hrs away and car top to anything that's farther, particularly when going north-east of Washington DC where cartopping cuts the tolls by...

    Sailing Distance

@James @Tag I had my iphone in a waterproof case with GPS/Charting software so I knew where I was and I was emailing a friend along the way so he knew my progress. I'm also pretty familiar with the area having sailed a slightly shorter ~20 mile round the island trip on much the same waters. As...

Best Place To Live In The Us This Summer For Laser Sailing?

I would recommend somewhere on the Chesapeake Bay particularly in the north part of the District 11. There are several clubs that do week-night racing, others that do weekly weekend day racing. Then there are the weekend regattas scattered around the bay. Combine that with easily reachable...

    Waterproof Iphone Cases

I've got an Amphibian all weather case. Looks like it'll do a great job, although I haven't had a chance to take it out sailing yet. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004NPBNJK/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details

    Mounting a go pro

Another good mount that I didn't post a picture of to the blog is the wrist strap mounted to the starboard side of the boom. Makes for some great shots of the start and good clean video on the runs. Just doesn't work for the port tacks upwind as you are looking at the sail. This mount...

News D11: Jon?s Laser District 11 Championship Regatta Highlight Film

Sailed the entire regatta with the camera on the boat. Friday night for practice it was at the top of the mast, Saturday was on the bow and Sunday was on the boom. It's a GoPro as the mounting is described here: http://www.jdeutsch.com/2011/02/13/gopro-laser-mounting/

News D11: Atlantic Coast Championship Early Registration Deadline

That article is from the District 11 website where the event was being promoted to D11 sailors. The Laser Forum just picks up the RSS feeds from many of the district websites and posts them to the forum and so non-district news posted to district sites often get mis-labeled.

    LED Trailer Lights

I have had LED's for my 3rd season now and I never immerse the trailer, I put 3-5,000 miles on my trailer every year. I have found them to go out one by one. Still definitely worth the money as I don't have to worry about them not working. I'd rather replace LED's every 5 years, then have to...

Class Politics Launch Fees or How to Kill a Fleet Without Really Trying?

Have only seen launch fees for state parks and the like. For those who pay to keep their boat there, get to launch for free, but those who trailer in were asked to pay a $3 or something like that. Considering the entry fee was already pretty low, I've never heard anyone have a problem with it.

Class Politics Scheduling...Thoughts on what's right for us

As a district secretary that was scheduled to host a major regatta, I had absolutely NO idea that our district was to be hosting the ACC this year and no way to easily look it up on the web (I am sure it was in the newsletter, but I read it for the articles and probably glossed over it). I...

    Most Active Laser Fleet? Where??

Take a look at the Annapolis area. From there you have a regatta almost every single weekend from May to October within a 3 hour drive and most regattas are even closer than that. Add to that Tuesday night racing in Annapolis, Friday night racing at West River (20 minutes south of Annapolis)...

what number are we up to

I saw someone get a brand new boat last fall and put a 220,000 number on it because the vendor didn't know that Vanguard changed the formula for assigning sail numbers a year or two ago and tried to use the old formula for an incompatible hull number.
