I have successfully used Rustoleum's marine paint - I think I used the topside paint since the boat is trailered. Home Depot sells it. There is some info on the web about this paint. It really needs a hardener since it takes forever to dry. If you can't find any good info, let me know and I...
Wow! What an undertaking! It looks like you are not afraid to dig into a project!
It would be helpful to know where you are located too, since as someone else suggested a donor hull may not be a bad option. However, I know there is a lot of fun and pride that go into a project like this. I...
It's not me in the video.....sorry! I wish I was still able to sail. I've retired my stuff for the year since ice is forming on the lakes.
Also - sorry for the bad link - here is the right link:

Okay!! That is COLD weather sailing!! Thanks for catching the error on my Blog link. Click here for the article www.sail-small.com
I love ice fishing and can appreciate having fun on the ice and those ice boats look like a riot!
I just created an article on the best cold sailing weather gear for Laser sailing that I hope you'll find useful. You can see the entire article here:

I have seen this method referenced several times, but I don't think the info is on the site any longer. I looked around and could not find it. Maybe I am missing it. Is there a better link?

Dang!! Love the speed puck, hate the price....lol.
CSKUDDER - how do you keep your GPS waterproof in the event of a capsize? I know they are typically very water resistant and will keep spray and drops out, but submerged......?
I hope this has not been covered before - I searched for awhile with no results.
Is there a GPS or specific gadget that can track the sailing for the day? Some sort of recorder to show where you went, how fast you went, etc?
Something along the lines of a GPS recorder?
I see some races post...
Well I did have a much better launch today. This is still only my fourth time out on my Laser and I am still learning. In the main parking lot, I rigged the sail onto the mast, lowered the mast into the mast step, and attached the boom to the mast with the vang.
I then drove closer to the...
Okay - I got a mini Harken block to add to my vang setup for more purchased. I want to make sure my understanding of this drawing is correct. Can you please confirm the ends of these two lines tie to the bottom pin or section of the block? Thanks!!!!
One last thought (for those who care lol) I noticed on Youtube that Jon Emmet rigs his entire sail on the ground - vang, outhaul and all. Then lowers the completed rig into the mast step. I may have to try that the next time. The only thing was that in his video there was very little wind...
ya know, I don't know why in heck I untied it. I guess I thought it would whip into the dock or the boom would hit some vertical posts, but your right - with it pointed into the wind, the stern would be out and downwind of the dock with no chance of hitting it. I still wonder how it would have...
For the love of this board, I will share the highlights of my disasterous launch today. I have never sailed this lake before and the public launch area is in a smaller sized bay that's sorrounded by expensive houses. The wind was whipping about 12 knots (okay, not WHIPPING) and the wind blew...
Thanks PAX for the response. I suspect it will come it time and I love the learning process. I went out again today and was more conscious about where I was pointing, where the sail was and the boat speed. It's slowly starting to make sense.
I did have my fastest sail yet today while sailing...
I had a FANTASTIC day on the water yesterday. What a rush that thing is. This was my second time on this boat, and the first time was in 2-3mph winds so it was kind of useless. Yesterday I experienced 4-11 mph winds and it was great. I got better and beating, block to block, and watching how...
