    Question Wooden Sunfish?

Yes, as long as the parts that are required to be from the builder are from the builder (or have been replaced with new class legal parts) the boat should be good to race. The Lightnings and Stars both have classic boat races - if there are enough wood Sunfish around it would be great to try...

    Question Wooden Sunfish?

This is something I have always wanted to do. It will be class legal. I don't think there are obstacles to it measuring in, but there could be challenges in getting it to go fast. First is, will a modern white composite daggerboard fit into the trunk? If it does, is the depth of the wood...

    fall/spring sailing gear

So I used one pair for a season of Laser frostbiting, with almost no wear, but the pull on a Laser sheet is much less than a Sunfish. I just sailed 6 of the 8 races of the SF US masters in a big breeze with the same pair, and no wear so far.

    Right On Trailer?

I’ve taken my Right On all over the place. NJ to IL was my longest trip this year. I by some great amount of luck got one that hasn’t rusted much and it’s 10 years old. But I’ve seen ones two years old that have massive rust. I love mine and use it for my Laser and Sunfish. It’s made my...

    Laser gunwale repair

That happened about 10 years ago in my 2006 Vanguard. I cleaned out the gap, and I’m sure I then somehow further cleaned it with acetone. I only use West products, so I used West epoxy to glue the hull back to the deck. I can’t recall if I thickened the epoxy or used a pre-thickened epoxy. I...

    Sunfish Variant?

This is the most info we have had on this. It appears to have a new-style Sunfish rudder gudgeon, dating this to 1972 or newer. Must have a curved tiller to get the tiller down to deck level. What an unusual boat!!!

Brent left LP last fall. I believe Blue Keel is somehow affiliated with or owned by LP.

Missing world sailing plaques on 2021 and newer boats

Zip is definitely class legal. The splashrail would make it hard to hike! And it wouldn’t need a plaque! Btw the three loop bridle is legal. I’ve often wondered how well a wood boat would do racing if I could disassemble it and use West and other modern methods to assemble it (and make...

Missing world sailing plaques on 2021 and newer boats

World Sailing confirmed today that only boat made after April 1, 1990 will need plaques. Those that was the first time plaques were installed in the boats when they were built. Pearson-made boats with a hull number ending in D090 or newer (D= April, E=May, etc, the first 0 is year of mfr ...

Missing world sailing plaques on 2021 and newer boats

Hi, I am one of the class officers, and I'd like to ask anyone with one of these 2021-2023 boats with a non-legal or missing plaque to click on the red button on the original message up above and request the free, legal plaque. It takes just a second to do it, and it'll make sure your boat is...

    Sunfish Scale Models

I bet it cost only a few dollars in the sixties. He has it listed where you can make an offer. It might be worth doing as it looks like his listing has expired at least once with no one having bought it. His shipping charge is high too, but maybe you’d get lucky and he’d take a low offer...

    Sunfish Scale Models

Dumas made a nice one back in the '60s or maybe '70s. I have a partially built one - someday I hope to finish it. The hull is made of thin mahogany, and the boat can be displayed or sailed!! Here is one for sale on ebay - a bit pricier than it was back in the day. 1960 Dumas Alcort Sunfish...

    Attaching a Hiking strap

I did everything the same as Pam, and I have three more comments: 1) I removed the hook 2) I was worried that the joint/seam in the aluminum trim around the cockpit edge would saw thru the hiking strap line. So, with the hook gone, I took a plastic milk bottle, cut a rectangle from it, and...

    Attaching a Hiking strap

Absolutely! The way I added mine to an older boat is I took the same size eye as the Harken mounted to, put it upside down under the deck on the same screws holding the Harken on above deck, and tied the end of the hiking strap to that. Most racers want the hiking strap up high in the front...
