    Reefing

You were responding to a posted thread, and giving your take on what your dicision making process is regarding reefing. Sounds like an appropriate post for the Laser Forum to me.

    Reefing

According to Tillman, if you reef the sail, you pull the cunningham tight before you reef. But, if you're reefing, as I would, because you are new to the boat and want to make sure you're not over-powered, would you really care about working the cunningham?

    Reefing

Ok, so, the original designer says fine....Dick Tillman says its fine, and someone posted they do it regularly and have no trouble. So, methinks its fine...especially if I'm not out in heavy winds...so I'll try it until I get the feel of the boat and let you know if theres any damage.

Wouldn't it have to be awfully windy to deform the sail?

    Reefing

I just got my copy of the Complete Guide to Laser sailing. In it, the author mentions you can reef the sail by wrapping it around the mast to decrease the surface area of the sail. I'm thinking, great, as I am a little worried about the boat being a bit much for me, a novice. Have any of you...

    Inspection Port: How To?

I purchased an inspection port for my laer, but have no idea how to install it. I have searched the forum and there are lots of Where-To posts, but can anyone give me any advice on how?? I don't want to blindly cut into the deck without some ideas about what I'm doing.

Which vang: Harken or Holt Allen?

Personally, I like Holt Allen. I don't have either, but Holt Allen has two words, Holt and Allen...I like that. Also Harken is latin for "bad vang" ...ok, it's not really...but boy, that'd be ironic huh?

    Completely New Laser Sailer

Its a great little boat. I sanded it down, covered it in epoxy and painted it...I've been sailing every sunny day since...and a few not so sunny days... Its so light you can push it around with a bailing bucket when the wind abandons you. I'm really looking forward to the laser though. As...

    Completely New Laser Sailer

Hey Terry. I'm in Hamilton Ontario. Thanks for the tip on the book, I;ll try it. I've been reading everything I can find. I'm flipping back and forth between trading it in on something more comforatble and less racey, like a CL 14, but I may end up just looking for something else neglected...

    Completely New Laser Sailer

Thanks all for your feedback. I've met some great folks since getting this boat. Ok, here's another dumb one. I often take to the lake when the winds are very lite. I usually have a paddle along with me and the odd time the wind dies on me, I can easily push my small boat around. There' really...

    Completely New Laser Sailer

160 and still sailing? Good for you...I know lots of people younger than you who wouldn't sail any more.

    Completely New Laser Sailer

Ok, so...if I understand this, if I flatten the sail out too much by cranking on the vang and/or outhaul, the sail becomes let aerodynamic and has less power. If I'm correct, wouldn't it be a good idea to set it like this while I play around, then loosen it off when I get the hang of it?

...should I be looking at a radial sail...and lower mast?
