Feel free to come down anytime. You can be my guest at VSC. You may also want to check out our annual Firecracker Regatta. We open up the boats for charter. Many have used that as a testing ground to measure interest. www.viridiansailing.com
@jelfish I have a Laser at the Corinthian Sailing Club in Dallas where we have 5 Aeros. I'm also a member at the Viridian Sailing Center in Arlington, TX where we have 30 club owned Aeros. I can tell you that the Aero is an awesome boat. It's like they took all the things that Laser guys have...
If it's a kick around, yes, go cheap. I did the same thing with my first Laser back in the day. There are links with old school Cunningham and outhaul. Here is a video
From what I've seen on this forum, there is some sort of difference (not just the bend) of the two sections. I think it's a wall thickness thing. However, I'm always one to save a buck and if it's for a beginner, and you have a spare full lower to destroy..... Why not! :)
Congrats on the boat! Couple of things. When putting the inspection port, so you can put a backing plate for the rudder. don't go to close tot he edge. The core does NOT go all the way. I'm not 100%, but if memory serves it's several inches.
If you feel that mast step is leaking, I've...
Congratulations on the new (used) boat! Lasers are great fun, and you will love it. Here is a link to a video I made with a boat that has a similar rig. It the rigged boat is at 1:30.
I agree that a boat in perfect shape will not be significantly faster than one with scratches. I think that a solid hull is the #1 thing you should consider, that followed closely by hull weight. This is considering that you have the modern rig and NOT the old bunk that they used to have (yea...
I know the owner. He's a great guy, and I use them all the time. Highly recommend! Many in the Dallas ILCA fleet use his practice sails and they are good quality. I bought a 4.7 sail for my daughter, and it looks great (I also have two practice sails of my own).
Given its age this may be a daunting task, but you could start going back in ownership. Maybe find the original owner or owner's family with a picture?
Good luck. The boat looks great.
Hello all, I have an old Harken blade bag that has bit the dust (literally the insides are turning to dust!). Been looking around on the interwebs and it looks like there are quite a few with large price variances. Any suggestions?
Where are you located? If you are looking for a deal, I used to post on Craigs List, "I'll buy Lasers in any shape" I found some very interesting deals.
You may also want to look for boats that will be a bit more and you can sell off some extra parts to lower your overall investment into the...
How does the hull look? I agree with everyone above. I would only paint unless absolutely necessary. You may want to see if you can get the red paint off. It looks to be a very cool orange underneath. I've painted a deck, and can turn out nice, but nick and such will eventually come to...
I had an older one that had a chewed up bow. I'm sure everone on this post will start beating their keyboards, but I used the epoxy that comes in a tube and you mix it like silly putty. Sanded the S out of it until it looked decent. It lasted a few sails (boat was for my kids), and I sold the...
Hello, I have a Sabre 28 and live in Texas. I'm going to re-do the wood on my boat. I'm not sure what it is. My Sabre is a '72 model hull. Any suggestions on varnish / epoxy or something new that can handle the Texas sun?
