Vang / Kicker - Quick Release Pin

Completey agree but their fast pin does not have a push button. I had one fall out while sailing. I would highly recomend one with a locking pushbutton mechanism. Bill

    Laser Core?

I just measured core thickness of plugs cut for inspection ports on decks of two late 70s boats: 3/8". I used 1/2" CoreCell to redo cockpit floor and it worked well but I removed the whole floor, not just a patch. Bill

    Just Bought a 1979 Laser - Help!!

Pete, Attached ( I hope) is a picture of what a Laser is like with the cockpit sole cut out. Note the floor is supported at both rear corners and all along the center wooden stringer as well as at your cockpit drain. If you epoxy only the drain and the rest of the bond points are loose I think...

    gelcoat over epoxy

Hi All, I am just finishing a cockpit repair. It was soft and cracked so I cut out the floor, cut off the delammed foam core, epoxied and glassed on newe core-cell, replaced the rotted center stringer and glassed in the cockpit sole again. My intention was to spray gelcoat to finish the...

Vote: To sail or not to sail

I was wondering if those of you who sail in salt water have icing problems with the boat? Our "large winter fleet of myself and my sailing buddy" :) were out in a snowstorm last Sunday, temp just below freezing. 200 yards from shore you couldn't see land. Was a strange feeling following the...

    New Laser Radial

go to the Vanguard site www.teamvanguard.com and check the Dealer locator. You have one near Halifax, some in Quebec and one in Ottawa that all could give you a price and might be cheaper and easier to ship than your requests for prices here that will mostly be from U.S. sites.

    laser parts

Why not try Valley Marine www.valleymarine.ca. They are in your own backyard in Ottawa. You should be able to walk into the place and decide for yourself if you can trust them. If you order from the "States" you will pay more for shipping.

    Making a purchase

try this thread for ideas. Of interest might be one members' solution to transporting a laser in a small pick up. His S-10 will be similar to your Ranger I think. http://www.laserforum.org/showthread.php?t=4245&highlight=truck

Jib Halyard - wire lost inside mast

Don't know how much clearance you have around your halyard sheeve but a lenght of bicycle chain works well as a weight, as heavy as you need but flexible. Have used this on larger boats. Bill

    customs and duties

Have any of the Canadian TLF members ordered stuff from the States. Is there duty payable on Laser parts, sails or accessories such as hull/deck covers. What costs will I expect to incur besides shipping and the exchange rate. Can't justify C$700 for a new sail. Might try out one of the...
