    Nutty Sail...

Had the old girl out for a few hours yesterday in advance of a line of T-Storms. STEADY 20, puffs to 25. Screaming broad reaches, falling off because the apparent wind was moving down, periodically pushing the tiller sharply to keep my 48 year old ass in the boat. I'm bloody sore...

I think I jumped it yesterday...

Steady 20, gusting higher. Losing balance. Falling backward. Push tiller QUICK!. At 15 knots, it keeps me in the boat. Tight chop to 3 feet. Face of wave, fall off. Soar over the back of next wave. Weightless. Waves hitting me. Over the bow. Slide butt back a bit more. That was...

    Rigging tricks from a pier...

I launch from a pier, and when it's blowing 15 to 20 across the pier, rigging can be a bitch. Sometimes I wonder it the flailing clew strap is gonna knock out a tooth while I'm wrastlin' with it. There is no beach - just a sharp bluff to the water's edge and some rip rap. The boat is in the...

    APS Sail Pix

For those of contemplating a practice sail, here is the APS version in 10 knots of wind... Compared to my blown out laser sail, it's great. Not sure how it compares to a new Laser sail tho....

    Towing Laser behind a boat....

So, we're about 4 miles by water to the local club where my 12 year old will be racing. Races run until dark, so sailing home is not an option. We tried towing down there with the center console last week - pretty tough. I tried the daggerboard halfway down, but once on plane the boat still...

    Intro and thanks...

Guys, It looks like you've nurtured a great forum here. Thanks for the help so far on my deck puncture. And I just took advantage of the "use a shop vac to install your mast wear plate" trick. Very cool and I amazed my son with "my" ingenuity. 35 years of sailing, and I'm still learning...

    Mast Step OK?

So, In another thread, someone mentioned that the depth of the mast step should be 14" when new. I ran down at lunch and measured 14.25" deep on mine. I intend to add a stainless disk. Is the current depth worrisome? How much glass is there? Thanks,

    Punched a hole in deck...

Not sure exactly how - It may have gotten caught under the pier. Repair looks to be a bit difficult with no access to the underside. I'm considering installing a round access plate to resolve the issue. But I know that's a bit half-assed. Is there a better approach? Come in from the...
