Hi folks, I got a cover off ebay and after a bit of power washing it came up almost new. I got some Granger's Fabsil, a product used for making tents etc waterproof. It's been great on the cover, and water is beading and creating puddles which won't saturate the canvas, it got me to thinking...
Thats old! I think elvstrom sails were teh first sail makers, if tha's in as good condition as the pictures suggest it could be worth alot of money to someone....
As far as your ropes go i'd look at replacing them all, get a bit of colour in there so you can tell the differance between them...
're gunnels- you need something that dries solid and bonds to the existing material, I'd use some sort of epoxy/fibreglass filler, hold the two sides together with a clamp with cardboard against the boat to protect it and distribute the force a bit
My old boat is also done in toplac, 4 years later and I'm only going to touch up a few small areas on the deck where the cover and ropes have rubbed, I'm very impressed with it especially on the bottom.
As far as getting someone to do it, I was quoted 300GBP for mine,im not sure I'd be happy with that given what I've done myself for less than 50 quid in materials/tools.....
Nice buy, I just bought 181432!
i take it mine is a 2005?? what do the rest of the letters number mean?? i've not seen a definitive list for newer boats only old ones....
A few things i've considered when buying my boat recently;
you dont HAVE to weight the hull if you can be sure it's dry inside, smeling the bung hole can help determine this, if it's still like chemical epoxy smell, and no water has come out your in luck, also check all round the hull deck join...
top is ok, just a case of grinding teh gel coat down to the fibreglass and building it back up again, underneath look a bit more trickey, again if it's just the gelcoat thats cracked youll get away with grinding it down and rebuilding, if the fibreglass ic compromised you might need some...
get some wee anti fog inserts, only a few quid (dollars) and do the job well, I use one all the time as it stop any random vibration which occurs the odd time.....
