this is all pretty superfluous. I was in pretty high winds (15mph gusting at 20) and I had to stop to do an emergency fix on my tiller/rudder (a bolt came off, should prolly check that before launching). I let the sail down so I could fix it without capsizing, then raised it again with the...
I have read the FAQ on how to install a hiking strap, but it wasn't really that clear. In the front of the cockpit, I plan to install it with an i-bolt through the lip of the cockpit with a backing plate (or something similar). I am confused about how to do install it in the back of the...
Hey Guys,
I just did a leak test on my boat and found a leak on the inside of the daggerboard trunk. It's right at the front of the slot, midway down. Right now I'm planning to put a deck port in right behind the splash guard and fix the leak from inside the hull, unless I can think of another...
I really need to refinish my dagger board, but I'm a little confused as to the specifics. Could anyone give me a list of the products I will need as well as an estimated cost? One of my friends suggested painting as a cheaper alternative to epoxy, but I would like to avoid that if I can.
It's an eight foot bed, but I would build a frame and put the last cradle on the tailgate (as long as I could fasten the frame to the bed of the truck well). There would probably be four and a half feet over hanging, but I don't know if that's much more than the average overhang on trailers...
Would two cradles be sufficient, or would you suggest three? I'm thinking about making a frame with cradles that I can secure in the back of my truck. That way I won't have to find a trailer, as long as it works properly.
I have an abundance of polyurethane and varnish for indoor outdoor furniture and hardwood floors as well as a ton of wood sealant for decks...I suppose none of this is good for refinishing a dagger board?
Advice for a new sailor?
Well, I now have my first sunfish, and I think she's in pretty good condition. I'm not planning on racing her, hopefully she'll do great as a recreational boat. I'm pretty sure it was a steal for $100. Below is my assessment of the boat, I'll try to put up some...
Got the boat today, the rudder and dagger board need to be refinished. Also, there is some damage on the hull around the dagger board slot thingy. I may upload some pictures later...
Hey Guys,
I've been looking to buy a sunfish, and a friend of mine recently told me about one he'd seen for $100. I know this is a cause for extreme caution (nobody wants to get stuck with a useless sunfish), but he's a knowledgeable sailor and seems to think it's a super awesome deal...
What makes a sail "class legal"? On sunfishdirect.com they sell 6 ounce dacron sails for $315 that are class legal. At this link, ( http://www.sunfishsailboats.com/sails.php ), there is a 3.8 ounce dacron sail, supposedly class legal, that is being sold for the same price, but I know that...
