One more piece of advice, unless there's a racing stipulation not to, I highly recommend a window, well worth the extra money! (maybe $40 more). I have one in mine, but raced yesterday in another boat which did not have a window and found it very difficult to keep an eye on the other racers...
Before the next sailing season I'd like to buy a newer, lighter hull. I have a pre/72 with too many years of water inside, even w/drying attempts, the boat is easily 150+ lbs. I also want the back cuddy. Has there been a significant hull redesign, interior or exterior and if so what year...
Thanks for all the replies, I'll start working on the "flick" method, I've already been working on the "dive to the corner" maneuver, there should be a term for that move.
I'm fairly new to laser sailing, came from sunfishes.
When I'm sailing at a run, with the sail out quite a bit, and I jibe, often the main sheet will get caught on the stern corner as it makes it's way over to the other side. Most of the time I don't know it until I realize I can't sheet out...
I'm looking for a race starter device which will count down and sound a horn, a all in one device. I've googled the heck out of it and find nothing. Surely it's out there and if not someone should build one. Ideally you could program a x minute warning, maybe a couple and then the start...
Believe it or not it fits, snug but it fits. Not knowing lasers I just thought it was a very silly design. Turns out, the fellow I bought it from also has a sunfish, a sunfish without a mast for the moment. This sunfish mast has a slight bend in it, something he told me was part of the...
Problem solved, I notice the top mast had a top cap just like a sunfish, so I pulled out my sunfish mast and low and behold.. it's a sunfish mast and not a top section to the laser!
First, thanks for the feedback. Next, there are no laser labels on either mast section. A standard danger for electrical warning label on the bottom section. Factory rivets on all hardware on lower section. Riveted caps on both top and bottom of both mast sections, they do not look homemade...
Bought a 1993 laser yesterday, it's in great shape but I'm having rigging issues. I don't believe the fellow I bought the laser from was a laser sailor. I think he bought it for his kids and they did not sail much.
The sail refuses to go the last 6", simply WILL NOT GO. Physically too...
I'm buying a used laser this week, it's in great shape. In my shopping I noticed quite a few boats w/damage to the deck/mast step area. The boat I'm buying does not have this problem. I'm guessing this is a vulnerable area as the damage seems more common than not. I enjoy bigger winds and...
