Harken 240/241
Thanks...I was thinking of trying taking off the fairlead and attached a block to one of these and wasn't sure which one to get...so if they are the same except for the fairlead and how big a line it takes, it wouldn't matter since I'll be taking off the fairlead.
Re: Swivel arm base cam cleat and H240 / H241
Thank you all so much for all this GREAT information!
So my next question is, what's the difference between the Harken 240 and Harken 241? Is it just the size line it can handle?
For 20+ years I used a "Bullseye Swivel Base" such as the Harken 240 seen in this link....it swivels and has the cleat. There are many who say never use a cleat but I always liked having one because I race and recreationally sail and use it for both...
Does anyone have experience with a Swivel Base Cam Cleat? Harken sells the 205 cam base cleat.....Ronstan sells the RF7....they are both designed to use with a 57 mm block. I do race, but I do recreationally sail and really miss having a cam cleat (I have a new boat and have a Harken ratchet...
Thanks Zeppo....so how high up from the boom do you place them? about how far from the upper spar?
Does anyone put them on the very edge of the leech of the sail....like one set at each seam?
Just purchased a new race sail in Sept. Used it 3-4 times, what a difference from the old recreational one! Time to winter store it :(.
What's the best way to store it? Take it off the spars and fold it up (I can still see the fold marks from when I took it out of the bag it came in)? or...
Definitely GO FOR IT!!!
Laser Performance bought out Vanguard I believe earlier this year. I had a chance to go to Vanguard's factory (transitioning to LaserPerformance) in Portsmouth, R.I. this month and see the factory where they make the current Sunfish - very cool! Very nice folks too...
All good suggestions and thoughts!
I understand the "draft" of a racing sail makes the sail larger than a rec sail. Is the race sail material cut differently (like on a bias?) than a recreational sail? Can anyone explain "draft" for me? I've had many discussions with fellow racers and...
What's the difference between a recreational sail and a racing sail? It appears the size is the same, 75 sq ft. A race sail appears faster but I don't know why...?
