I have money, what do i do with it?

If your willing to wait until friday afternoon/evening Gavin, I can come help you out. I'm in Lunenburg until then doing my green course, but I'm happy to help. If your using the boat at HYC this summer, I'd stay away from anything carbon, you know what the kids are like, and you've seen how...

    Laser M rig

Hey Gavin - David (Y) here form HYC... When I get back from Lunenburg at the end of the week I'll come take a look at your boat like I said I would last month - sorry, I just forgot :P

    Cleat or not

Personally, I can't stand cleats. I just hate the feeling of not having total control, which using cleats causes. I'm constantly adjusting my mainsheet, so using cleats simply end up poking me and getting caught on things.

Tragic news from ABN AMRO Two

R.I.P. Hans. My condolences go to all his family, friends, and crew. Good luck to the crew in a safe return to land.

    Picture of laser inspection port

I used a jigsaw for mine, since I did not have access to a hole saw. It worked fine, and as long as you're careful not to cut too much (leaving a gap fir water to leak in) you should be alright. Honestly, I've never used a hole saw, so I don't know much about them, but from my experience, a...

    Improving Pointing Ability

Yep, were going to need some more information. A few more questions: What year is your boat? Is your hull stiff? Are far as your pointing abilities, it sounds like your controls aren't set right. Reply with some more info and we can help a lot more.

    Picture of laser inspection port

You should be able to go to any hardware store and get some stainless steel screws, hey will do the trick. O-rings go between the port itself and the cover, and they help keep water out. If it didn't come one I would call/email APS and ask if it's required for that model. Some models don't...

    Picture of laser inspection port

So sorry, to be honest I completely forgot about this :( On the first picture the bow is to the right hand side, and towards the top-right in the second picture. That's a 5" port if I remember correctly, and I used 3M 5200 and some nuts and bolts to keep it secure. I'd opt towards...

I'll snap a picture of mine when I get back from classes and post it for you, along with the pros and cons of the glue on type and screw on type.

Stainless steel disk for mast tube??

I believe class rules are strict in regards to the plate, so I'd recomend getting a class-legal one to be safe. Your laser dealer doesn't sound terribley knowledgeable :( I believe I paid around $8CAD for mine after a dicsount, they were normally ~$13.

    Mast Step on 1980 Laser??

Your going to need an inspection port if you don't have one already. Once this is installed, take a flashlight and try to find where the water is leaking from by looking in the inspection port (your also going to need a flashlight), or you can feel around for it. Once you find where it's coming...

    Mast Step on 1980 Laser??

It appears to be in good condition, however to check that it's waterproof you should fill it with water. If any leaks out, post back with how fast it leaks and I can give you some solutions. If any leaks, be sure to take note of where if possilbe. It looks good, certainly better than mine on...

    Media Serious speed with laser

Great video - Thanks for posting! I had a roll like that end the end of last summer... It put me out for 2 weeks because my knee went dead-on with my mast :(

    How old is your Laser

I'm racing 21002 (1974). I have the original sail, 9XXX (both with sewn on numbers), 1 radial sail new for the past season (~20 hours of training on it, one small one day regatta) and a new radial for next year :) Painted Silver Awlgrip with white deck. I must say, it's the nicest '74 around ;)

    Virtual Skipper 4 now released

Well, the demo seems very similar to VSK3 The graphics are improved, but other than that, I didn't feel much difference. I don't think I'm going to buy it. 7/10, it seems like there was a lack of improvements from the previous version (other than different boats and locations), but it's still...

    What else besides sailing?

Everything Old Geezer does, plus: go to school, do stuff with my friends, look at ski stuff, ski, tune my ski stuff, play paintball, tune my paintball stuff, buy more paintball stuff and make a little money (I gotta pay for all of this some how :P)... That's it, I don't think I could do much more.

    Wind indicators

I use a Davis. I find it most useful when I'm tacking. I keep an eye on it while tacking, and when it points to a certain direction I know that I can straighten out the tiller/balance my weight etc. Fishingmickey said everything else I can think of. For ~$20-$30, I think it's one of the...

    PFD's, Life Jackets

I'll recommend a Salus to you. I used one all season this year and haven't had any problems with it. It's by far the most comfortable one I've ever worn, and it has a front pocket that fits a few bars/knife/extra line, whatever you need. They are quite expensive ($139.99CAD + tax), but mine has...
