    Minfish Impressions vs. Sunfish.

Had to post this link for Seaotter5, since he mentioned the Midget in this thread, LOL... saw this while looking for a good secondhand truck or SUV to tow a small travel trailer, a possible option for me if I flip this home and go mobile in search of work. Or simply have a way to go...

Just some sailing pics from the Netherlands

Nice, Mr. D, keep up the good work... brimmed or billed hat & shades are 'essential.'

    Crazy weather...

Holy Cr@p!!! They found Noah's Ark!!! It wasn't on Mt. Ararat after all, it was in Huntington Beach (a.k.a. Surf City, USA), where good friends of mine used to live... I'd ride my rice rocket up there back in the day, dunno how I survived all that traffic. Cool pier though, and "The Wedge"...

Haha, 4cpus4me, you funneh!!! ;) You ever see that meme with the kitten baring its teeth, looks like it's grinning? And the caption says, "You Funneh!!!"

    Crazy weather...

Okay, now I'm back at the ol' hacienda, enjoying a cold beer... and I gotta tell y'all, lately I've been doing some deep thinking, and I'm seriously considering rehoming my cats, liquidating all assets, buying a bad@$$ bluewater pilothouse cruiser and sailing to friggin' Australia via Hawaii and...

Aqua Finn in Midland, Michigan - Craigslist ad, Not mine.

I like the ad: "Made in USA (not communist China..." Looks like a better knockoff of the 'Fish, and I like that cockpit! :D Kudos to ya for relaying the ad, 4cpus4me, I try to do the same out of San Diego C/L whenever I see a good deal... Some of the improvements listed...

    Sentimental Sunfish story

Awesome photos, Norcalsail! Sorry about your pop... I lost both parents a few years ago and they are still loved & missed. :( But mooring to a birch tree? That's some Daniel Boone action there, LOL... okay, NOW I'm off to the store, CHEERS!!! P.S. Those R/C sailboats can still teach ya...

    Crazy weather...

Well, I received the bad news yesterday afternoon, the county went ahead and hired someone else, despite calling me in for a second interview... I don't know why they wasted so much time after the interview to tell me about the job, but my age may be working against me here. They didn't seem to...

    Sentimental Sunfish story

Wow, nice Sunfish-sized lake! Those sons of yours will have to draw straws (or cards) for use of the boat, otherwise they'll be scrappin' on the lawn, LOL... I wouldn't recommend toilet bowl cleaner, there are milder products... I'd start with simple dish soap at first, just like...
  10. Cactus Cowboy

    Minfish Impressions vs. Sunfish.

Nothing wrong with a Minifish for having fun on the water... the boat will even give ya a workout in a stiff breeze. Don't be fooled by the sail area, the hull is lighter so the boat still flies... my best friend in Coronado lived down by the bay, and he once told me that he saw me flying across...

Beat up used Sunfish vs. Newport Panther - is it worth it?

Yes, post pics of damage to both boats, we will check it out and give ya some advice on repairs. Don't cut any holes for inspection ports yet, not until we see the damage. Good news is that you can use the same materials to fix both boats, so you should be able to save a little money that way...

How do you run your jib sheets when shorthanded?

Always helps to backwind the jib... early on in my instruction, from sailing Capri 14s (not the 14.2, the other kind) and Lido 14s, right up through the entire Catalina fleet at the Naval Sailing Club, all of us were taught to use that technique. Makes for a more orderly tack, and if you have...

    Craigslist Ad

Holy Cow!!! I just watched that "Cooper's Ceremony" video at the brewery website (bottom of the home page), and that is CLASSIC!!! Being a cooper is steeped in tradition... in the Age of Sail, ship's carpenters had to be coopers, or separate coopers were on board to ensure that...

    Craigslist Ad

Had to throw in a couple of links... slow morning here, waiting on word from my prospective employer. Samuel Smith's Brewery, Tadcaster | Yorkshire's oldest brewery https://merchantduvin.com/brew-samuel-smith-winter-welcome.php Good beer!!! P.S. I'm thinking one of...

    Craigslist Ad

Haha, the part about lying in the gutter after a gin bender is funny... but I'm not a big gin fan, I'm more of a rum or blue agave tequila man, LOL. ;) Years ago, when friends and I would drive up to O.B. or P.B. (Ocean Beach or Pacific Beach) for the day, sometimes we'd bring some of that...

Beat up used Sunfish vs. Newport Panther - is it worth it?

$55??? Wish I were there to bag it... Hull could have a hole in it the size of Rhode Island, and it would STILL be a bargain, LOL... ;)
  17. Cactus Cowboy

    Could this be the one?

Well, boats from sailing schools definitely receive more abuse, but you might find a decent boat that way... probably have to throw down more than the asking price just to bring her up to speed. You'll wanna inspect such a boat more closely too, due to the fact that she has been...

    Crazy weather...

We catch a break today here in Cochise County... temp is only supposed to hit the mid-to-upper 90s, LOL. Watched 'BROKEN TRAIL' last night on the curved screen, that flick sure has some nice scenery in it... the rivers & mountains are so beautiful! I saw that flick before...
  19. Cactus Cowboy

    Could this be the one?

Yeah, it happens... but another will be along soon enough, I think many boats are being sold during this current situation.

    Minfish Impressions vs. Sunfish.

Life is what happens while we're making plans... excellent comparison, though I never felt cramped aboard the Minifish, perhaps because I'm only 5'11" and I employed Signal Charlie's "Geezer Rig" for a little more ducking room. Not a full-blown "Geezer Rig"---just high enough to make things...
