    Rudder making questions

If you have the new gudgeon, once you place it on the transom as high as possible, you’ll realize it’s actually pretty simple to visualize the position. The recess for the old style rudder gives you a nice reference to keep it centered.

    Unexpected Coronavirus Result

Made it out to the lake yesterday, so apparently the Indian princess isn’t the only mystical creature on the lake. From across the lake I wasn’t sure what I was seeing, so I had to take a closer look. Yup a unicorn!!! They were fishing off that thing lol. No PFD, fishing off an inflatable pool...

    main block and hiking straps?

Well I unintentionally discovered a down side to the hook. If you loose hold of the main sheet, not having a fairlead or block on the deck the sail can blow away from you and take the sheet with it. Don’t forget your stopper knot. I also noticed the hook definitely wears on the line much more.

    Rudder making questions

After a bike ride with the kids I measured the hull for ya.... 10* + 120*= 130* 180* - 50*= 130* I’d go with 130* Psa: my math/carpentry skills are poor at best.

    Rudder making questions

Does this photo help? Kinda tough to measure the length due to the radii, but using 2 straight edges the rough length before is 7” about 5” after the radii are cut, or equal to the pintle length.

    main block and hiking straps?

I acquired an old hull, no storage compartment yesterday morning. After yard work I decided to test her sea worthiness. It only had the hook and I enjoyed sailing her that way. In the 8-10 mph winds Yesterday I didn’t see why I’d need anything more. As for a hiking strap I haven’t sailed with...

After a recent exchange with a well known member I came to realize this forum doesn’t have a thread like this.( or at least I couldn’t find it) If there is I’m sure a moderator can move this for me. Other forums I use do and it can be a helpful tool for newer member looking to buy or sell here...

    wet hull with loose foam

I got a boat a few years back, the foam is loose and I just sail her the way she is. She may not be pretty but I’ve learned that having an ugly boat, I don’t mind dragging her across the beach, ding or dents while loading unloading don’t bother me one bit. I do have another project boat that I’m...

Wooden Sunfish Free To a Good Home - Schenectady NY

Just spit balling on the 2 floor boards, but it appears the cockpit is a bit longer then I’ve seen in other wooden fish(zip). My guess is it was modified or built that way, notice the center bracing in the cockpit? That seems to be where rear bulkhead of the cockpit would’ve been. Also notice...

    Sunfish Halyard Knot?

Double Clove hitch works for me. I did acquire a boat that had electrical tape on the upper spar where the halyard would be tied. I assumed it was a marker, but maybe it was for added friction. I’ve since removed the tape with no dire consequences. Your results may vary.

    Unexpected Coronavirus Result

Weather here on Long Island has got me getting ready to drop the boat in the water. The wife mentioned the parks are closed. I guessing I can drop in lake Ronkonkoma at the dec boat ramp. I don’t recall there being a gate there. If so I’ll drag it down to the shore at one of the many roadside...

Fool Wants to Fix a 1966 Sunfish - Advice?

I scored a hull with the old brass hardware on it, which I have no use for, don’t recall if it was complete. I’ll check tomorrow after work. If it’s there your welcome to it.
