Using a barber hauler with a carabiner for the jib sheets for better pointing

So, raced in some fairly brisk breeze last weekend (8-15mph) and it seems when the wind picks up a bit the extra pressure pushes the boom to leward even when sheeted tightly. I would like to be able to get the boom closer to center, so I will likely be affixing the mainsheet to the bridle...

Longer tiller and extension other mods....

A few pics of my longer tiller and extension. Reconfigured the mainsheet to swivel forward and the set-up works dramatically better for me. Also, you can see how I tie off the tiller when setting the pole or need a free hand. I bent the hooks on the bungee so they're almost L shaped for easy...

    1993 Capri 14.2 For Sale, Orlando w/pics

Great shape on a very good trailer. One crack where the seat meets the"companionway" Multi colored sails in good shape. Upgraded halyard cleats to swiveling Seldons. Some new running rigging; standing rigging seems fine. Extra tiller and extension (about 2 feet longer when used together)...

    Looking for used Capri 14.2's

I'm in Orlando FL and will be selling mine for about $1,400 on a good trailer. She's in great shape and improved.

Using a barber hauler with a carabiner for the jib sheets for better pointing

I'm a pretty big guy so I'm slower switching sides and with both sails trimmed tight, even the slightest wind shift has caused the jib to backwind and crash tack, one time sending me over and turtled. Ugh. In light air though, it might be good... Nothing has helped me point higher than...

Longer tiller and extension other mods....

So I made a tiller that goes just up to the Barney post. Also made a new tiller extension about 3 feet long. I'm 225lbs (save it...) and being able to sit all the way forward is a total game changer on every point of sail. Tacking took some getting used to as the longer extension hits the...

How fast does the 14.2 turtle?

Yeah, so a while back I went to spray some expanding foam in my mast to stop it from filling with water. It already had foam in it so I guess that helps little, considering how fast it's turtled before. I'm going to add some eye-straps to the front edge of the mast and cut a section of pool...

How fast does the 14.2 turtle?

Yeah, having the float probably works great. I struggle with the concept of weight-aloft on a boat I'm racing, weighing under 500 pounds... The guys surrounding me are not using shackles on halyards on 2,000lb+ boats to reduce weight. YIKES! But if it comes down to turtling or being slightly...

How fast does the 14.2 turtle?

Man, I have been skeptical hearing how fast these things turtle... No more. Winston, I'm wondering if you took the float off the mast of your 14.2. I got knocked over completely for the first time yesterday and could not believe how fast she turtled (realistically about 8-10 seconds) in about...

Installing a Tiller Tamer, few questions...

These things are awesome... I've got 'em on two other boats and may splurge and buy one for my 14.2 as well.

What's your Capri 14.2's traveler bridle height?

So I raced my little 14.2 for the first time last week and MAN did I forget how sensitive these little beasts are! A few comments: I added a 4:1 outhaul for the main... I'll leave the main bridle as is, fairly low and with a moving block. The main, which is in much better shape and FAR more...

What's your Capri 14.2's traveler bridle height?

I had a 14.2 and found I could get the main closer to center (thus pointing a bit higher) by just tying a loop in the bridle rather than having the moving block. I seem to recall with the bridle fixed, the main could even out-point the jib (if that makes sense) so I had to pay attention. I...

Installing a Tiller Tamer, few questions...

I've used a couple tiller clutches (Precision 165 and Capri 22) and will never go back unless I am dead broke. Worth every penny.

Anyone rigged a spinnaker? Square-top main?

Like many, I struggle to leave well enough alone.... I'm guessing a 14.2 would do well with a small chute. Anyone have any input? Symmetrical or sprit and an A-sail? I priced a square-top main (about a grand, all in) and that might be fun as well, since I need to replace my techni-color...

    Straighten Catalina 14 Omega mast?

I have straightened a few masts (never a 14.2) and been very successful, basically getting the mast perfect... I now wish I had photos. Anyway, first, determine EXACTLY where the bend starts and stops with string by starting at each end, pulling the string till you can see the bend and mark it...
