I want to build an ultra light Sunfish. I have owned one in the past and will attest that at the current hull weight of 110 pounds they are strong

RS Aero hulls are only 66 pounds. The boats themselves are in the neighborhood of $10,000 though which is pretty prohibitive for many. It would be cool to build your own boat!

Sunfish / Laser / Thistle Sailing with torn ACL?

I had ACL surgery about ten years ago. I had just bought my first brand new motorcycle and got a few rides in before the surgery. It took about six weeks to recover and feel comfortable on my feet again. However, I was not able to fully bend my knee for quite a while after that. This would be a...

Self-isolation in clean air, salt water. Tomales Bay, CA; March 21

Great footage Dennis and again, what a beautiful day. Seeing this makes my resolve a bit stronger to get out there and quit being such a wuss for the colder weather we've been having. I tinkered with the boat yesterday, but was too lazy to even get to Spring Lake. Really like those flags by the...

    Video: Sailing Between California Fronts

Hey Coastal, I like your plan to get back on the water. I would love to sail in the warm waters of San Diego. It's a long way to bounce my boat down I-5 though! Had a girlfriend from there in the 90's and we would visit her Mom. It's such a big beach town. Hope to hear of your sailing adventures.

    Video: Sailing Between California Fronts

Thanks for bringing it up! I have been watching for this in Latitude 38 but had forgotten the specifics. Sailing in the Delta could be a lot of fun and pretty interesting. Much appreciated Chris, I just bookmarked the LWSC and if I make it, I'll let you know.

Video: We Go Looking For Some Wind

It had been a while since we sailed, so Andy and I took advantage of the warm weather and met at Jenner where the river flows into the sea. Winds were light but we had a great time and the day was quite beautiful.

    Video: Sailing Between California Fronts

We had been waiting for some decent sailing weather as we hadn't been out since last November. It got so warm I almost jumped in! Andy and I both have cameras now which makes for a hobby within a hobby. Thanks to the Forum, I was able to meet my great sailing friends.

    Racing sail life?

Thanks Tag, my problem is that I don't know what the tells should be doing when the sail is trimmed properly. Alan, in his last sentence, wrote that the telltales should be streaming straight aft when the sail has proper trim and this gave me a lot of insight. Should that have been obvious...

    Racing sail life?

I think I have some of those around. Unfortunately, I'm not really getting how to use tells!

    Trailer ball rant

I want to thank Alan for pointing out the safety issues of having a 2" hitch on a 1 7/8" ball. I haven't made this mistake but these are the type of reminders that keep us (me) safe. After a bit of messing around with tie downs, I feel I have finally found a very secure system to transport the...

    Video: A Memorable Sail

It was the highest tide I have seen so far at Marconi. I have the habit of wanting to wrap things up in the early afternoon and get home but I wasn't ready to leave last Saturday. The weather was amazing so let's watch for more and sail over the holidays!

    Catfish (?) Project

I'll keep an eye on this boat and maybe stop by again in a while. The guy was an old sailor and thought it had a lot of Hobie parts which he said he used to sail.

    Catfish (?) Project

You're right Tag and it is not a Catfish either. It has some similarities to the Catfish but when I was next to it yesterday I wasn't sure. Well, I won't pursue it. Just the height of the mast was discouraging. I really like the short and easy mast of our Sunfish sailers. Interesting...

That's what I thought. I have some photos from the back I want to add.

    Catfish (?) Project

A while back, Signal Charlie had posted pictures of their Catfish which I thought was really cool. About a year ago, I was driving on the outskirts of town and noticed this boat. I finally stopped and talked to a guy who lives there. The boat has been sitting a few years but is all there. I was...

On the Dubious Merits of Accepting Free Boats

I really like that red and white sail too. You can see it's brand new by the creases from the fold. I hope they wrapped it up right when they put it away for the winter!

On the Dubious Merits of Accepting Free Boats

Back in July of 2018, when I decided to get my own Sunfish, I had been reading about repairs on this site. Although I have had some experience with fiberglass repair, I decided to get a new boat as I have plenty of home projects etc. pending. Glad I did as I like having a boat no one else has...
