    Question Halyard rigging question…

If you mount something on the mast to turn the halyard around (whether it is a thimble or block tied on, or something screwed into the mast) and you run the halyard down from the top, through that turning point, and back up through a trucker’s hitch, you create a 2:1, which will reduce the load...

    Question Halyard rigging question…

I found the video. He didn’t use a block but a thimble. He did say he has broken a few masts where the cleat was but he still uses a mast cleat curiously. This is the video:

    Question Halyard rigging question…

I thought there was a way to do it with a block lashed on the mast kinda down low, but above the gooseneck, where you run the halyard through that, and then back up to ??, and then back down to the deck. That 2:1 created halves the load on the deck mounted block. But what does it go back up...

Question Padding/protection for from of boom and lateen …

Hmmm maybe I’ll upgrade to that cap. Not a fan of too much tape on the boat. Thanks for getting back to me.

    Question  Halyard rigging question…

Isn’t there some way to reduce the halyard load on the deck block? I think I saw it in a Lee Montes but he has dozens of videos and I can’t remember which one. It involved a block lashed to the mast I believe. Thanks in advance. Erik

Question  Padding/protection for from of boom and lateen …

Hello all, Does anyone have a clever solution to pad the bottom of the two linked eye bolts that link the boom and lateen? I do hold it up while raising the sail, but plan on loaning the boat out and can’t be assured this will happen. I’m trying to keep the deck from being scratched. I’ve...

Question Mainsheet length and diameter for 2:1 …

I’m not racing the boat. I wound up not doing the tapered mainsheet due to costs. I’m just sailing it for fun!

Need to remove the deck off of a rolled deck sunfish

The OP should just use some Raid and call it good. Or not worry about it at all. The spiders will die.

Question Mainsheet length and diameter for 2:1 …

I ordered 7mm Rooster Polilite from West Coast Sailing. It is not taperable, but as someone mentioned those lines are twice the price so I scrapped that idea. I ordered 43’ of 7mm, and the 22mm Harken traveler block (two blocks at right angle to each other). I will attach the dead end to the...

Need to remove the deck off of a rolled deck sunfish

I’m in agreement with Alan and Beldar. Removing the deck seems like total overkill.

Question Mainsheet length and diameter for 2:1 …

I am going to swing by West Coast Sailing and see what they have. I happen to be in Hood River, OR this weekend and will be driving through Portland on my way home. I am open to suggestions. I don’t want to spend a ton of money.

Question Mainsheet length and diameter for 2:1 …

I’m not sure. I have broken a Laser mast step before. I’d love to know that it doesn’t happen.

Question Mainsheet length and diameter for 2:1 …

I’m not sailing it in class regattas. Just for cruising around and camping adventures.

Question Mainsheet length and diameter for 2:1 …

Thanks all. I think I’ll go with 7mm. I’m going to do a tapered mainsheet so I need to find the kind I can cut the sheath off of for the portion not being handled.

Question Mainsheet length and diameter for 2:1 …

What I’m saying is I don’t sail the boat in anything over 20 because it’s an old boat. That being said I can use a smaller diameter mainsheet. And the 2:1reduces the load on the mainsheet. So I might go with a skinny mainsheet. Is 6 or 7 mm reasonable or too skinny?

Question  Mainsheet length and diameter for 2:1 …

I think Lee Montes says 42’. Is that working for people? What diameter are people going with? 5mm? I don’t sail in over 20 because I have an old boat and don’t want to break the mast step. Thanks!!
