    Numbers: the Dutch youth

Every sailor wanting to participate in regattas needs (1) a class membership and (2) a license from Dutch Yachting. That license is easy to get; it's more or less your Dutch Yachting membership card. The diagram here shows the 'members' of Dutch Yachting. But, you cannot obtain a DY license...

    Numbers: the Dutch youth

This is a pic of the issued Youth Licenses on Jan 1 2019. Although in Dutch, the diagram is easy to read. A quick translation: Jeugdlicenties = Youth Licenses in total Wedstrijdlicentie = Competition Licenses Bemanningslicenties = Crew Licenses Overig = Other classes Eenmansboten =...

Fees for the Laser Hull Plaques & Sail Buttons?

Interesting question! Thanks for asking this. Menno

    Trailex SUT 220

Yes, you did. I was not clear enough, sorry. My late 2017 trailer has a contraption like that, but I've taken it off to make it easier to load/unload the trailer. AFAIK, there's one Dutch trailer brand 'Kalf' with a hinged system: you can swing the extension + rear light clusters aside, making...

    Trailex SUT 220

Perhaps not, but that's not known to the various national law-enforcement officers! I've done thousands of miles from Cornwall to the Baltics and from Stavanger to Vilamoura in Portugal last year with this contraption and I've not been pulled over once.

    Trailex SUT 220

That SUT 250 looks good! Personally, I would opt for the 12" wheels and spare wheel. On interesting detail: here in Europe the lights of the trailer have to mark the end of what you're hauling. Most Lasers have a plank with rear light clusters attached to the rudder gudgeons. I can take a pic...

LP no longer an approved builder-- why?

From LPE's statement a few weeks back. But not discussed here. Am I too negative when I think that this can/will influence the choice between Laser and the other contenders for a new dinghy?

LP no longer an approved builder-- why?

Dutch dealer SailCenter has added 'official class legal boat' to the selling point list and '2 - 3 day delivery time' and 'in stock'. Menno

LP no longer an approved builder-- why?

No one will buy that, but what can you do when you have boats lined up waiting for a WS plaque that will never be issued? In the past, LPE told WS that they were planning to build xxx number of boats and WS would send those plaques in advance. About 400 - 500 numbers in advance. Last Summer LPE...

Converting a trailer for 2 fish?

Pics? How did you weigh the balance, making sure that it 'leans' on the tow bar? Both my trailers have a pretty heavy nose weight. It makes them very stable at high speed. When in the US, I spot those U-haul trailers that are idiot-proof: the wheels are so far back that it's nearly impossible to...

Converting a trailer for 2 fish?

Absolutely a multi-person job. But with 3 boats there's always someone to help... I've seen two young lads putting the boat on the top shelf with no other aid. I must admit that it looked like it wasn't their first attempt raising and 'parking' the boat. I'm not a fan of trailering a 3-story...

Converting a trailer for 2 fish?

This must be one of the nicest around. Built by Heudra, 50 miles from my house. Lightweight alloy box and a 2 or 3 layer scaffolding. Most attach plumbing material (grey or black pipes) for the upper and lower masts as well.

Converting a trailer for 2 fish?

... added to that: we (nearly all trailer owners) use 13" wheels for the trailer. Why? First: 13" tires are easily found when they need replacing. 10" isn't easy to find. Secondly: 13" can handle higher speed easier. Speed limits when towing here in Europe differ from country to country...

Converting a trailer for 2 fish?

Just showing my trailers-trough-time. Perhaps it can help you get inspired... Fist up: a smallish trailer with a lid, originally to hold an optimist on top - exactly the width and length of an optimist. When my son changed to a Splash (80cm shorter than a Laser) it just fitted... Since a little...

LP no longer an approved builder-- why?

Mmmm perhaps is the discussion between Aussie and LPE boats not so far off topic as we initially thought... LPE claims that Australian boats don't comply with the rules and that ILCA was informed quite some time ago. LPE on 'too fast Aussie boats'

LP no longer an approved builder-- why?

Well, given the size of Northern America, you guys should have one. Numbers-wise, perhaps things are different. 61% of all Lasers is in Europe. Numbers-wise, CAN and USA house more or less the same amount of boats as you can find in Germany and as you can find in Italy. (Given the number of...

LP no longer an approved builder-- why?

After reading this here and talking about the situation with people from the Laser sailing community from Germany and The Netherlands (the Germans attended a two-day race-training with Dutch crews in Medemblik) I can safely say that there's a difference in perception between what I hear on the...

For those who may concerned: Hansa Class on the Medemblik Regatta next May

Medemblik Regatta's press release: The Hansa class has been added to the Medemblik Regatta 2019. Although sailing is no longer part of the Paralympic Games, World Sailing remains committed to sailing for people with disabilities. The Medemblik Regatta also continues to support and promote this...

LP no longer an approved builder-- why?

2017 LPE boat here; #212xxx. 'Driven in anger' so to speak: >120 days/year in -sometimes- atrocious weather conditions, hauled across Europe (20k kms) on the stackable A-frame trailer. No cracks, no flex. The only thing that has failed is the lower mast. Besides, when sailing a Laser after the...
