Hi, Thanks for the response. Yes, I bought the "official" white plastic tube on ebay. I even tried the piece of intertube recommended by the Sunfish Bible and the rudder still pops off even in moderate winds. I was out yesterday spinning in circles on a windy day and it was really frustrating.

I have the old style rudder on my 1970 which has been frustrating at best and want to upgrade it to the new style. Can I use the old tiller with the new rudder or do I need to upgrade both at the same time? Not the best photo but all I have at the moment.

This works really well for anyone else with an old style rudder. It's much easier than messing with a wrench to get the pin in and out. The size I got is pin diameter 1/4" and pin length 3 1/4". I paid $2 for it at Tractor Supply.

Would a lock pin like this one work as a rudder pin for the old style rudder? The pin is 1/4" diameter and 3 1/4" long. I thought it might be more practical than using a wrench to get the pin out.

Ah, ok, that's unfortunate. I chatted with Chris at Dynamic yesterday and he steered me toward buying the Sunfish handle fitting (Dynamic HF3) with the edge trim rather than the keel V support which I did. I'll test more as well when I receive the part. Thanks for your response.

Resting it in the V fitting sounds like a great option too. I also wouldn't have to worry about it falling on the pavement when pushing it to the boat ramp. Do you find the boat stays on the dolly when it is resting just on the V fitting going up and down steep inclines? The pond I use mine on...

It's a 1971 boat with aluminum trim and, like you said, it just falls off the handle part no matter how tightly I tie it off. I'll call Dynamic and see what parts they can offer. Thanks very much
