Commissioning a 1988 Laser that has not been used in many years

Yep, someone was trying to replicate Force 5 controls on a Laser.

Commissioning a 1988 Laser that has not been used in many years

Looks like someone had some very elaborate custom rigging on that boat.

Seen this? New Kid in Town. Laser with 29'er-ish sail

Until recently I thought this was just another better mousetrap/Laser rig. These come along all the time. This is the first confirmation I've seen that the class is in cahoots with updating the rig.

Seen this? New Kid in Town. Laser with 29'er-ish sail

Given that the class international president is in that video, I take it the class is behind this project. As this is the first we hear of it? You'd think they class would have learned something about transparency the last few years.

Interesting reading about a composite lower mast for the Radial

It appears the class is converting to an all-composite rig one spar at a time.

Interesting reading about a composite lower mast for the Radial

Makes it easier to release the vang as you approach the windward mark before you bear away. I'd think that would actually cause less strain on the spars.

    Olympic status

I thought I read somewhere it was proposed to use a slightly different rig for the Olympic RS Aeros, which would isolate the existing class from Olympic shenanigans.

    Special Edition Lasers

Please don't store or transport your boat on the trailer like that. The runners will create stress points on the hull. Best to store/transport it upside or on a support that is formed to the shape of the hull.

    Laser Value Question

Glad you picked it up. I guess it wasn't the boat I saw a few years ago. Amazing there were two cream puff, only sailed to church on Sunday by a little old lady Lasers so close to each other. Same vintage and color.

    Interested visitor... humpback whale.

That is way cool. I've seen dolphin a few times off the US east coast, but never any whales.

    Life Vest Recommendations

I think some international regattas use wording in the NOR like "must have a PFD approved for use in their home country" which allows sailors to avoid having to travel with multiple PFDs or buy one just for a single regatta. Seems lawyers could have fun with that if something bad happened...

    Life Vest Recommendations

In my 25+ years of sailing small sailboats in multiple states, I have had no dealing on the water with law enforcement. Not checking equipment, and certainly not looking for CG approval in the small print on a life jacket. They are mostly concerned with two things - drunks on the water, and...

    Life Vest Recommendations

When it comes to recreational boating in the US, some of the policing of the waters is done by the Coast Guard. However, most of it is done by state-level parks and wildlife officers. Having the Coast Guard set national standard was probably seen as a better alternative than having fifty...

Were they checking for Coast Guard approved, or just people not wearing a PFD at all?

    New boom blocks

Assuming the new upper mast is indestructible, it wouldn't make sense financially. A new composite (not carbon) upper is $495 compared to $330 for a boom. And if the upper does break, it bet it would be in a spectacular manner leaving it completely unusable for a boom build.

DIY Easy Seitech Dolly Tire Repair - Inner tube insert

There is always the brake cleaner/flame trick to seat the bead of a new tire. Do so at your own risk, and remove the valve stem first
