ARC 1 and ARC 2 rigs

Thanks, Nickolos, Yes, I don't race at all so don't care about class legality as I sail for fun. I was just curious if anyone ever actually had experience with those rigs, and it sounds like no....

ARC 1 and ARC 2 rigs

I think this video is a couple of years old, and I don't see any threads on these rigs - am I missing something, or did they just not happen?

    Padded shorts?

Thanks for your response, Morten! I've ordered the Zhik Deckbeaters just now and will have them by midweek. Yeah, they're expensive, but I am very impressed by the (also expensive!) quality of the Zhik P2 PFD I bought a couple of years ago. Hope these work as well. I need them to work...

    Padded shorts?

Hi, I'm 72 and in decent shape, In fact, I now feel more comfortable hiking out on my Laser than when I sit on the deck. Why? I have a bony, no-padded butt! Has anyone recommendations for shorts that have some decent seat padding? Not looking for hiking shorts or anything with...

    Blatantly Non-Class Legal Laser Modifications

Well, Rob, I like to think there are no equal or more skilled skippers :). But yes, when I changed rudders I started outpacing my sailing mates. Now several of them (we never race or need to be legal) have also gone to the rudder change and they are happier and a threat again to my standing.

    Blatantly Non-Class Legal Laser Modifications

My Laser does not race. I have used it for 38 years now as a fun machine. Of all the little non-legal tweaks, I have to say swapping out the rudder for a vertical, deeper (read, Hobie 16 blade) rudder (shaved down a bit to fit the standard Laser rudder head) has been the most rewarding mod...

    Laser "squarehead" sail

Do you know if your club still has it and maybe would want to part with it?

    Laser "squarehead" sail

Does anyone remember this larger sail (not the Hansen Turbo) that Intensity used to carry? I know they aren't made any more and if I had the correct name/description I would probably post separately to see if anyone has a used one for sale.

    Not racing

I used a GoPro Gooseneck mount, spring-clamped to the transom. The other option you showed would likely work, too. I lost one GoPro when the mainsheet caught it during an unplanned gybe. I had a safety line on the gooseneck but it tore the camera off the top. Now I tie the safety line to...

My Laser was hit by a car!

Great to hear your input, Claudio! Yes the boat is amazingly strong and I was supremely lucky that the car stuck the strong transom joint just off to the side of the gudgeons, and as the boat moved forward the bow support on the trailer caved forward, acting as a "crumple zone." and the bow...

My Laser was hit by a car!

Nope. The kid had no driver's license nor did he or his mom have insurance. And my insurance (three vehicles and one homeowners policy) did not cover my trailer damage. I gave them a break. Did not call the police, and have them issue a report or any more hassles (which might have brought...

My Laser was hit by a car!

It was on my trailer, and we were stopped at a red traffic light, on the way home after a great day sailing on Tomales Bay, CA. A kid in the car behind mistook the accelerator for the brake in his mom's car. The car struck the Laser dead center on the transom, and drove it forward about 4...

    Laser Foil Details sought

Nice clip, Pierre! While I do long for warm water like yours, at least out here where it's in the high 50's year 'round, my wet suit protects me from all the scrapes and bruises I seem to get when I've sailed in warm waters. It's been 25 years since I made that rudder, but I just went out...

    Laser Foil Details sought

Hi, Pierre, Yes that Hobie rudder requires some shaping and shaving at the top to end up with the proper fit into the Laser rudder head. I used a belt sander to thin it, and for that waterline entry just below the aluminum I used a rasp and file to "sharpen" it a bit. (that part still kicks...
