Laser Cockpit Autobailer "Not class legal for racing" . . . What?

I think that, as their doing with the hulls, they should "legalize" more part builders with certain requirements, many of the non-legal stuff: fittings, vangs, bailers, blocks, do not give you any real advantage anyway. A laser boom is just an aluminum tube (and so are the mast sections)...

    “Practice” sails, blades etc.

Of course it does. Actually it's World Sailing who has no authority over any sailing club. WS has authority over the races organised by the club only if the club wants a particular race to be held under those rules (usually one or two of the races we do here in a year). I race every Friday...

Laser Cockpit Autobailer "Not class legal for racing" . . . What?

Come on LaLi, you know there are not enough sails like that for even a single club's fleet... And for 130€? The cheapest used sails in good condition (and that means one season, not two races) around here go for about 300€ if you call the right people. This was the last sail on sale on our local...

    “Practice” sails, blades etc.

It's a trade-off: decent price/being allowed to race. No real difference in quality, performance etc... They say it's the price you have to pay for real one design racing though.

Laser Cockpit Autobailer "Not class legal for racing" . . . What?

Legal Sail: +600€ Practice sail: 139€ Same with everything else, so unless you are planning on racing ILCA sanctioned events, go for whatever lets you have fun without feeding the greedy monopolist and waste your money, nobody at club level really cares....

WS Equipment committee rejected the TLC application for International status

Just read in Sailing Anarchy: "The Equipment committee has just voted to reject the TLC application for International status, and also intends to propose a change to the regulations so that such applications are not considered in the future " Interesting part starts at 2:12:45 on this video.

    7 min Laser sailing video

It's a cleaning product, it has paint thinner in it (solvent) and has very little lubricant. It's good to de-grip rusted screws but it'll generate more rust than before. It's not meant to protect the surface, actually, it's the other way around. For galvanic corrosion (two different metals in...

    Isn't WD40 pretty corrosive itself?

You can sail with a fixed outhaul, and you can sail without a downhaul. You can't get away without a vang.

    Gel coat repairs

Well of course, that's what I'm going to do... But I will eventually get a nice looking bottom for this boat in the future, either for racing it or to get a better resale price...;)

    I'm a laser owner... Again.

I will need one eventually, because mine is illegal. Actually the head is the one on ILCA's website shown as an example of illegal. :D (Nautos Brasil) And the blade... Judge yourself (sorry for the bad picture)

    Gel coat repairs

If you've seen my other thread you'll know I just got a "we-don't-know-how-old" laser in pretty good shape and I need some advice on gel coat repair. This is a picture of the problem: As you can see it's not the typical "spider web" lines that you make bigger and fill with gel coat... What...

Thanks a lot Rob, I'm going to open another thread regarding some gelcoat work I've noticed is needed on the hull, (no, it won't keep me on the dry...)

    I'm a laser owner... Again.

I got a great deal on an Allen XD Cunningham/outhaul Power pack on a local shop (it looks like it's been there for a few years...) and yesterday I bought a second hand Holt vang system and a bailer... I need a tiller extension and I think I'm ready to sail with the almost destroyed standard...

The hammer is a good idea... If I can take the screws out first! I suspect it wont be the case. I'll see what I can do.
