Vanguard

Since I have been on my quest to find a sunfish I notice the Vanguard Era boats seem to be kinda sought after. Why is this? What was it about that manufacturer that they liked? Was the boat built differently? Quality? They seem to fetch a little more money also.

Even though there is a Build/Construction Manual for the Sunfish, there are a lot of more subtle issues that play a role in the ultimate quality of the boat. It is generally recognized that Vanguard did a good job in building those hulls. Not necessarily a perfect job, but one that has stood the test of time. Nevertheless, a Vanguard hull should be inspected closely just the same if you are interested in buying a Sunfish.

As an aside, I have a Vanguard 2006 hull that I have sailed and raced a lot; often in medium to heavy conditions (over 10 mph winds).
The hull still looks fine, just a few blemishes due to me hitting the dock etc.

I am sure it probably makes no difference but the boat was one of the ones from the world's they provided then sold. Pictures look really good but we will see tomorrow in person.
