I started working on my "free" Super Sunfish today. I'm excited because thework repairing the issues created by the prior owner weren't too bad to fix. Once I'm done I'll have the bottom repainted to the original color. While I have access to the master tube should I add another layer ofglasseven if it's not leaking?

Yes, coat the mast tube with resin and maybe two layers of fiberglass cloth and put a puddle of resin at the base of the tube add some finely chopped
up fiberglass cloth to beef up the base to prevent movement and possible failure down the road. The nice thing is that you can do a sloppy job and nobody will ever see it!

more work today, my 2nd ratchet bound up for some reason right when the resin was curing so you'll see I made due. Getting close to wrapping up this major repair. Glass and glue tomorrow morning then hope to start filling. I found a local person who can match the new gel coat to the original color. Less than a month she'll be on the water again!

Looks great. Nice job. I like the colors. Much more interesting looking than my boring white ‘76 Super. I ended up removing the traveler and mounting the fiddler block to the deck using a Harken stand up mount. I never found the adjustments on the traveler to be of any use and by removing them I shed a couple pounds of weight.

Finished up the gelcoat on the botton and buff out on top, she's ready to sail again! Before and after pics.

What method did you use for applying your gelcoat? I had a heck of a time this spring applying a new coat to mine using either a roller or brush technique - sanding it smooth took out the majority of the laid material and I frequently found myself touching up burn through spots.
