rudder repair

this rudder came with a recently bought used boat. Can I repair this with West Marine Rapid Repair resin and hardener? or dive into the fiberglass repair? what is the best size extension for this aluminum tiller for racing? I'm new for fixing up!

Thanks

Epoxy or resin can be used to fix this. The key is proper surface prep as both need the 'roughness' you get with sandpaper to bond to the surface. By sanding back some and increasing the surface area for the bond it is even better. I have seen several repairs that failed at our club just because they did not sand and put a taper area in before the repair.

Used the west marine rapid repair epoxy and painted with rustolean enamel white on the repaired area. so far so good.
