Are there any Polish or Danish sunfish owners here on the forum?

Small update:

Unfortunately, Laser Performance is having issues with the production line in Portugal and therefore don't know if I can get a new Sunfish before the end of this season...

It is a pity since I wanted to sail on it already with the end of August / at the beginning of September... Eh...

Performance is missing from Laser Performance (and has been for a number of years) :(

Very disappointing

I asked the US retailers about the availability of the boats and they said that currently if I would like to order a Sunfish, the earliest I can have one delivered would be around January or February but this is a rough estimation and it can be much later than that...

:( Yes it is--especially for those prospective buyers overseas. Suppose LP is shipping everything to the U.S. in shipping containers?

It's NOT bad news for those of us who transform a "forgotten" Sunfish, and make a $1100 Sunfish from a $150 Sunfish. ;)

If it's any consolation, I just broke my leg, so probably no sailing for the rest of the season for me either.

Hi zbieraj, I use two techniques to store items on my Sunfishes:
  1. I glued a stainless steel square eye plate to the inside wall of the cubby and then clip a short bungee cord to a waterproof box. I also clip a bungee cord to my emergency collapsable paddle to the same eye plate.
  2. I have an inspection port in the front wall of the footwell that allows me to stuff a small bag inside the hull of the boat.
For my Minifish, which does not have a cubby, I'm thinking of riveting 4 small stainless steel to the outer lip of the deck in between the mast and the splashguard and stretching some bungee cords back and forth between them to hold a paddle and dry box.
Here are some pictures of the items and links on Amazon, if they are available there:

Zbieraj, we will soon have something in common: being a member of a sailing club in Scandinavia with the only known Sunfish in the country :D The one over here is, I believe, from the early 1970s and has a yellow deck with white diagonal stripes. I've never seen it rigged and only once uncovered, and have even no idea who owns it. (It's located at 60°08'37.9"N 24°44'20.8"E in Google maps at this writing; my Laser is at 60°08'37.1N 24°44'19.8E.) I've toyed more than once or twice with the idea of leaving a note on it, asking for the price :D

And Kaløvig... been there many times, beginning with the  1975 Optimist Worlds which was sailed off the beach at Egå. That is some great sailing culture that you're surrounded with.

_
Kiitos!

Small update:

So the retailer told me on Friday that the production line in Portugal is still struggling and since the World Championships are coming, they are now keeping all the new orders on hold and they are focusing on producing now the Sunfish boats for the WC. Therefore I will not be able to buy one before the end of the season... But I am still keeping my money to buy it once my retailer will finally get his orders delivered :).

And because I forgot to reply: Thanks @Weston!

Some more pix to show how it all comes together

everything fits nicely inside the cubby. And if (I mean when) I flip, nothing gets lost as everything is lashed to the eyebolt that I glued to the inside of the cubby.

Zbieraj,
Did you get that Sunfish? If not your best bet is to get one after 2022 Sunfish Worlds in Italy.
You can have mine after I finish racing. If you changed your mind you can still visit Lake Gard and watch races.
I rented an apartment just 6 minutes by foot from Circolo Vela Torbole. You are welcome to stay with me for a night or two.
Assuming you can sleep on a couch.

Hi @california_dude, I did not -.-. The production line in Portugal is still catching up... If the price would be tempting, I would actually gladly purchase it from you. It would have additional amazing background story (first Sunfish in DK/PL and already one that participated in the Worlds). In addition, as we spoke via Skype before, that would be an awesome opportunity to meet in person.

So why not? :)

Do you know if the 2022 finals will use the new 2022 design of the dinghy? Do you know if these Fishes will have trailers as well?

California Dude may know more, but the boats are made in Portugal these days (without internal foam supports). It's likely they will have 2022 on the stern, although 2023 is a possibility as well. Typically, they are provided with a dolly for the Worlds.

I have no doubt that Worlds boats will come with dollies only. It will be up to you to get a trailer or cartop it.
I personally don't like to use a trailer for transporting a small boat. First of all most trailers have too firm suspension, and I've seen cracked boats because of that. Also, you can't drive fast. I have a special rig on my truck for that.
The only trailer that I would use is Kitty Hawk, but I doubt you can get one in Europe.

It's a crapshoot how boats will be like for the next Worlds. IMHO these boats will be made in China with final assembly in Portugal.
Laser Performance is in a business of making money. Keep that in mind.

Zbieraj, I recommend you contact your dealer in Poland and ask about getting one of these boats. If he can't help you with that, he is not much of a dealer.
