Okay all -- newbie post here, I've already spent a lot of time on this forum learning how best to set up the boat and what to watch out for / improve upon. I'm not new to sailing, just to this boat. There's just one thing I can't figure out, and maybe it's a dingy thing, never had a dingy before -- what the heck are the two holes on either side of the hatch for? In my Catalina handbook it shows a line running under the hiking straps and going into these holes, my boat didn't come with a line there and I can't for the life of me figure out what they'd be for anyway...tensioning the hiking straps? Something else? Seems counter-intuitive to me to want to seal up the boat as much as possible in case of capsize and then have 2 holes leading to the interior of the boat.
