Digit fonts on the Laser sail *Advice please!*

A question regarding the shape of the digit fonts on the Laser sail. Especially regarding the digit '1'.

Should it be like this (note: it's not about the color! It's the shape I'm asking about)

Or is a digit shaped like this also allowed? Again: it's about the '1'. Personally, I think it is. I cannot find confirmation. Added to that, the distance between two digits should be 60mm apart, I think. In this case from the rh side of a digit to the lh side tip of the '1' I think. (Phewww, hard to explain this in English when it's not your first language...) Btw, this pic is from Rooster's website.

Doesn't matter. Both are ok. All that the RRS says is, "Commercially available typefaces giving the same or better legibility than Helvetica are acceptable."

The minimum space between the numbers in the class rules is 50 mm, which overrides the 60 mm in the RRS.

Thanks for that!

I started applying the digits on a new sail this afternoon and when I'd finished the job, I realised that I'd used the 'Rooster style' numbers this time. I was worried that I'd to re-do them all...

True about the space. In the past, I've maintained 55mm and that was okay according to the stamps on all previous sails.

okay according to the stamps on all previous sails.
Which, regrettably, doesn't mean a thing. It's a widespread assumption in all classes that championship measurements are highly authoritative ("this can't be illegal, it passed measurement at the Europeans!"), while in reality they're not. Many reasons for that. I just sailed in a World Championship (in another class) where a few clearly illegal sail numbers were okayed.

Measurers don't spot everything. Different measurers focus on different things and we are also reliant on volunteers who aren't very experienced when it comes to gear checking. Additionally we have less than 5 minutes to completely check an boat, it isn't as easy as you might think.

The class recommends 60mm, because it is easy to have a number not go down straight and be out by a few mm. There are people out their that will try for 50mm, and they are the ones that complain when you say "the gap on that number is 48mm please fix it. "
