Im often sailing my 470 single handedly, which is fine in low wind. The problem happens when the wind picks up and the boat is way overpowered. I thought I might be able to sail in heavier wind if I could ride the crew’s trap, but that would require a longer tiller extension.
I don’t want to make a new extension since the hardware that mounts to the tiller is of strange stainless vintage stuff.... and besides, I won’t be needing a long extension all the time. I want to make something that attaches to the original tiller extension (glass composite) that I can remove for crewed sailing.
Materials? I’ve heard bamboo is strong/cheap, and I’ve heard to stay away from PVC. Thoughts? Has anybody done this before?
Thanks!
